Ah thanks for pointing that out. Im not missing any other small parts am i for the upper? Little more difficult since there arent kits quite like the lowers (i did see upk but i think my upper with forward assist/dust cover takes care of those)


I dont have any particular grip/trigger combo in mind. I think thats something ill decide to change as it gets use though

 

a buddy says he has access to tools so i shouldnt have to worry there

Looks like the build should be about $910 before any shipping/ffl fees so that doesnt seem too bad considering its a full length free float build

 

Invest in your own tools, just sayin'

Just kidding.
I've gone shooting in -20 degree weather before, when a buddy and I were winter camping, but our accuracy sucked (ever try shouldering a rifle over a heavy jacket, heavy wool sweater, flannel shirt and a base layer? Adds about 2 inches to the LOP of the gun, haha! Tends to play hell with the eye relief on the scope)
Plus we could only take about 2 shots before we had to put our gloves back on to warm our trigger hands up.

I definitely agree that shooting in the (very) cold is no fun. But, if you've got nothing better to do, it's more fun than sitting in front of the campfire shivering.

 

The Geissele reaction rod is expensive but I will still pick it up eventually. Seems like the best vise block/action block for AR upper builds.

 

What are the extension, end plate, and castle nut for?

 

Receiver extension is the piece the buttstock slips onto. End plate holds in the detent spring for the takedown pin in place and keeps the buttstock from rotating. Castle nut keeps the end plate in place. If you buy a buttstock assembly and not just a buttstock, these parts are often included but not always.

 

Also, the castle nut is often called a receiver extension lock ring, receiver ring, etc.

 

Hhmmmm. I'm thinking I may need some/all of these as well. I bought a stripped lower, and a second hand used sig brace. It came with a buffer tube, but nothing else besides this piece.

 

That's the receiver end plate.

 

The buffer tube = receiver extension, and the castle nut may or may not be needed depending on the pistol buffer tube you're using, so you might be ok. If not, the castle nut is a $5 part.

 

Is there an easy way to tell? I have no idea what brand the tube is. It looks like the one sig advertises that comes with the brace since it has the part towards the end to stop the brace from sliding too far up. I can hand tighten it all down and then can't move the end plate by hand, if that's good enough
Edit: it looks like the sig website actually doesn't show it including a tube, I must have saw that as a combo deal somewhere else

 

I'd say watch one of the many assembly videos out there and it will be pretty clear what you need. You don't tighten the buffer tube down, it only threads into the receiver far enough to retain the buffer retaining pin. You should have a castle nut that slides over the buffer tube and acts like a collar to keep the receiver end plate in place, or some other sort of clamp that goes on the outside of the buffer tube.

If you take a photo of what you have we can tell you if it'll go together or not.
