I really really hope this doesn't turn into something bad for you. I agree with deterring... but when there is a need to confront, confront. I don't know what you can do, it's not like the police need to be further notified. Is is possible to just gate the whole thing in?

If there's a rash of home invasions your wife needs to be capable of defending herself and the kids. She might not be comfortable with handling a firearm but she should be able too if she absolutely has too.

Why would one use caltrops against a moose , elk , bear or cougar ?

I would think if a bear stepped on a caltrop, it would move away, and learn not to return to that location. Do you like grizzly outside your nursery?

So your plan would be to just toss caltrops all over your yard in the hopes of warding off a bear ?

If you ever had a horseshoe crab bite your ass you'd understand.

You should spread horseshoe crabs all over your yard , you can probably get those free

and it's not the bear injuring his foot on a caltrop part of the plan that makes no sense , it's the " I need 10 000 caltrops to spread anywhere in my yard a bear may step " part that makes no sense

If it is on your land then you can legally put those spikes down and set up cameras. If you catch them on your land trespassing then you can defend it.

Easy, I said outside my window and on the hidden passage through my woods they created. I don't want them everywhere. You use a magnet to retrieve them. We don't have bear, cougar, moose or elk in my parts. Just whitetail whose paws wouldn't be hurt on them.

I am also on new tires and the thought of that almost makes me want to rescind the idea of this thread. But, I really am curious if anyone has purchased these, and if they think this could penetrate a boot or tire. I think the construction is shabby and am cautious of the purchase.

    Couple of things here.

First off the caltrop idea is idiotic. You will never find all of them if you want to pick them up.

The ones you posted would only work against bare feet. The nail ones, while a good design and would seem to work best IMO, would last for years. You stated you have an infant. Infants turn into exploring mini Indiana Jones's, do you want your mini Indiana playing around your house and stepping on one of these things? I didn't think so. Banish this caltop idea from your brain.

The logging deal, get a couple of game cameras, place them in strategic locations and get them on film poaching your trees. Also, inform the authorities now, so they are aware and you are on record. Once you get them on film, let the law handle it, its their job. You dont want to get into a confrontation if you dont have to, especially alone and with no back up. Trees grow back, your kids dad does not.

The break ins and what not. Listen to what Biden said, get a shotgun, teach your wife how to use one. If she says she doesn't want a gun in the house then try and talk here out of that nonsense. If not :notsure:

Get a dog, the guarding kind. Cattahoula's are very loyal and tough as nails, plus they love kids.

    Goodluck.
