Hi Chris! I'm a bit of a n00b in these parts myself but if Susan says you're okay, well then you're okay. ;)

I LOL'd at the musical memory lane y'all took me down. Knew them all (even though a bunch were before my time) except one, Ella. I thought it was her but wasn't sure; as soon as I heard the voice I knew.

Susan, find an old stereo system on craigslist or somewhere and play those tunes!

As promised, pics of the resurrected turntable and associated junk. I've been busy getting it all rigged and wired and whatnot and so I have only listened to one side of one album so far; it does sound great, but I had forgotten how briefly it lasts before you have to get up and turn it over.

Here is the cabinet with doors closed. I hung the bookshelf speakers on the wall to keep them out of harms way. The cabinet was our old 'entertainment center'; lately it's just been used for playing Wii games with the grandkids. It was made by a friend of ours who sadly does not do cabinetry anymore. Said there was no money in it! Now he's an EMT.

    DSCN1199_19f4211643ba2541ddbb181fc3440b9e34d0b80a.jpg

Doors open. The big black thing on the bottom is a 12" passive subwoofer, whumpwhumpwhump! (It's actually very subtle, at least it is when I turn the dials.). I keep a VCR in here too, for those instances where someone has something only in that format. Every time I use it is a reminder of just how good video quality has become these days. VHS is awful in comparison! Turntable is on the same shelf.

    DSCN1200_5a6f886765f99c03cbc81547d36e616939c88331.jpg

And finally the stars of the show. I estimate 4-5 milk crates' worth of vinyl, liner notes, and extraordinary cover art. About 2/3 I collected during my music buying years, the other 1/3 my ex-neighbor gave me when he switched to CD's. You're right Paul, it's a shame nobody wants them. Totally unused or very rare stuff might have a market, but most anything anyone actually listened to is worth a pittance. Better to keep using it rather than burying it in the closet or throwing it away!

    DSCN1202_e1d8f04a6821d18786733c0113604ab5c657d49d.jpg

So I guess now I need some milk crates.

The old vinyl has to be played to be appreciated. And for some, it is too much work. Hence, it sits in closets and garages becoming more of life's clutter.

I was driving a '66 Mustang fastback with a cam in it that was so radical the thing would barely idle. I think I had a death wish at that time. Or maybe I was just crazy, and probably have not improved.

We had a series of tight turns in a road just outside of town. We would see how fast we could come out of them. The top speed remained about 70 for years. I pushed that Mustang through at close to 90, and nobody wanted to play anymore.

I had a 57 Ford that I paid $10 for. I would drive it around the pastures. The day I got a driver's license I took it out on the highway. I thought it was going to explode it shook so bad as I closed in on 100. I could not quite get it to 100 before I had to back off. The best I ever got out of the Mustang was 120 and it was floating all over the road.

I used to love to drive, but now I hate to. I'm sure that if I was caught today doing some of the stupid tricks of my youth, I would be in a jail cell somewhere. Especially for the home made bombs.

    Dave:
Old records are very much in demand here in the DC area, I have some old Beatle albums in Stereo from back in the day when that format cost more. All top selling records were released in Mono and Stereo back then.

On a positive note we have the pricing back from the general contractor and I am placing a sell order today with my broker. I notified the three vendors last night that I want to proceed with the project. Exciting times in some respect but it makes me miss my dad more and more. 25 years ago he helped me do a total kitchen makeover for a cost of close to 18K. Todays cost is over double that.

When I look at the total cost the labor is really less than 1/3 of the cost so in reality how much do I really save if I do it myself? I know it would take longer and not look as professional. I am happy to pay the cost and leave the headaches to them.

    Mornin' Tom.

Glad you got the numbers to come together for the renovation to proceed.

Bought my wife a new car 18 years ago, the new car I bought her this Summer cost more than double the one then too. I'm just sayin' ;)

I know Rob. All in all I was only about 5K too low, at this time, with my initial estimate. Not too shabby for a guy that is not in the business and only have access to prices on line and at Home Depot.

With my GC I am getting a true craftsman that does outstanding work. I just want to get out of his way and let him concentrate on the job at hand.

I'd say coming within $5K on an estimate for a project that size is great. I think having a professional do it this time around, versus by yourself, is very smart.

Now we just wait for pictures. :)

    Have a great day man!

 Sure sign of being an old f*** errr, COD; sticker shock because you still have 1970's prices bouncing around inside your head!
Yep, should be epic. Break out the popcorn wagon, will you Rob?

To be honest, it took me a few months to accept the sticker price on a new one; looked at several used ones and got frustrated with being beat out by others on the good deals, in addition to a couple shady sellers ... Finally realized, "I can afford to buy her a new car if I want." ;)

We'll park this off the side of the porch. :)

    Morning Paul.

Still 0°F with single digit high forecasted for today. Teens tomorrow, then 20s/30s with snow for the weekend. Hope we get the snow. Dogsled races are getting cancelled for lack of it. :(

Good evening guys. School was closed today so I copied a lot of music to the new tablet and read a book while I am charging up 2 new cell phones.

Fired up the snow blower and the son went out and made $75 in the neighborhood without even asking anyone. Next door neighbor called for him to clean her driveway and her husbands parents driveway. They live next door. Another neighbor stopped him for a long sidewalk for cash. I told him to clean 3 other driveways and one lady gave him $20. The other two are not home from work yet. He did not expect any money for the 3 I told him to do.

Getting ready to transfer service for 2 cell phones. Wish me luck on the transfer.

I don't know Sue, your blinking thermometer from Sumter says 47º pretty balmy down there.:D
    Keep warm.:)

We had about 3"-4" this am, of course schools closed, the kid up the street was here early to shovel. He's pretty dependable, so I slid him a 20 for his efforts.

Good evening Sue, Glenn and Carl. Both phones are upgraded and working. I had to call technical support but the first call did the job.

Lots of cool new features for me. My phone is now integrated with my tablet. Samsung has some nifty features!

    Morning all

Morning Ms Susan:wave:...you stay warm as well:D..

SCHOOL SNOW DAY :yay::yes:...loved 'em when I was a kid. The kid that shoveled your snow and Tom's son are a few of the good one's that are still willing to work shoveling snow...plenty of kids just wait till dad gets home from work and let him shovel it:eek:

Just in case I missed it in earlier posts Tom, what Samsung phone did you get? I have the S4 and love it.

Got almost 2 " of the white stuff here. Roads are supposed to be bad out there this morning. Cold. It's days like this I wish I still had the old coal stove. Kept the house toasty warm:D...

Stay warm out there and be careful if you have to go out...Have a good day:)
