Hey guys, new member and lurker. I ordered a TRD sport DCSB barcelona red, TRD exhaust and off the build web site I selected the 16' beadlock style wheels. Dealer called me back today and said Toyota will not allow those wheels to be ordered with sport package ! What you guys think ? It was only a $249 option on web site and now what will it cost me ? Is there any legit reason why ? I know it's 16" as to the 17" sport wheel, is it possible there is suspension issues ? Learned a ton reading all the threads around here before I ordered my truck.

They don't want to sell them yet. They want the baja / TX owner's to feel special.

Are you sure you don't want to wait for the 2016 truck?

Oh man, you have no idea how I agonized over that one. I also priced out a Frontier Pro 4x ( don't kill me guys), I used to have a Frontier but had some issues like the tranny blowing up. My biggest reason for the 15 is like the Frontier I feel any issues have been resolved mechanically. I got burned bad with the radiator tranny thing with Nissan. I never owned a Toyota and feel it's a more reliable truck.

They have them as an option on the "build your Tacoma" page. I see your point though.

It would be cheaper to buy them on your own and not finance them through the dealership anyways. I would order afterwards as they jack the price up anyways.

Mechanical issues worked out??? You will still have your wheel bearings fail, your frame will still rot out on your new 2015. Figured they would have worked this problem out all already. If you know the frames rot out, why are they still using the same inferior product? Some people have valve issues on their Brand New 2015's. I believe some still come with the 3 leaf packs, not that the 4 leaf packs are much better. Toyota really needs to step up their game. I had a 1998,2001,2005,2010, and now a 2015. And sadly people are still complaining about things on their 2015's that were problems on the 2005's. Kind of sad that in 10 years Toyota could give 2 fucks to work out the problems. Oh and Toyota is fully aware of the bearings failing and will do absolutely nothing about it. So I am guessing the 2016 will have some of the same problems it already has, or because it is a re design it will have a whole new set of quirks.

I moded 1999 Taco so much it had turned to Land Cruiser
LOL Frame issue is since 1980's :D
My take on it is that its done on purpose so trucks dont last forever. :p
Somebody in Toyota design lab was " Oh snap we made truck that will last forever, its goign eat into our sales, quickly lets remove half of the paint from frame to make them last 8 years only. "

3 vs 4 leafs its little iffy. 3 pack was for smoother ride (car like) so coffee does not spill out of cup holders on the way to the mall. Those speed bumps in the malls are treacherous.
Wheel bearings is more of the maintenance issue than anything. I replaced mine just to realize I could have retighten them. If they put in manual to re-tighten them at 30k miles they would last much longer.

if he wants to buy a 2015 now instead of waiting a few more months for 2016, basically he will have a 10 year old truck while 2016 owners will be driving the latest and greatest.

They might be steering you away from putting a 16" wheel on a 17" wheeled Sport to avoid any VSC problems. Just a possibility

I doubt the VSC system is different between models

    They are $249/ea... $1000 total.

They are an accessory though, with a TRD Sport truck. It is true, you cannot order the TRD Sport truck with them.

Only way to get them, with a truck, is the TRD Pro truck.

I bought a 2014 partly because of the known issues as well. Dont wanna deal with the nightmares associated with direct injection that is most likely to come on 3rd gen. Already had that headache with my wifes Lexus plus read a lot about Fords with similar carbon build up issues on their DI vehicles. I'll give up an extra 20 HP and 1 or 2 MPG to have proven port fuel injection over DI. Plus my 05 was the best vehicle I ever had, hands down. I'll live with the little annoyances of 2nd gen but we also dont have much snow in AZ so no frame rust.

Before my Taco's I drove a ECLB 4X4 Chevy 2500 that I was spending an average of $4500/yr in repairs plus working on it every weekend myself (last 2 years of ownership). I guess thats to be expected from a Chevy with over 200k miles.

Yep, I would too OZ. Maybe dealers will be a little more motivated to get 2nd gens off their lots knowing most peeps will wait for the new model.

Thanks for all the advice guys. I'm thinking now keeping the 17" with street tires for spring - summer and buying the 16" beadlocks with more of a snow tire for winter fall. Having two different looks might be cool. I just need to find out if there is any legitimate mechanical reason I shouldn't run the 16" with Sport suspension . I'm supposed to take delivery end of Feb. I will update with pictures then.
