K&N intake kit?

    Maybe a dumb question here but, what kind of performance benefit is there to the full K&N system?

    I very much enjoy my K&N intake.

    That is the intake I'm running, and I currently run low-mid 13's in the 1/4 mile on street tires. Intake alone I dropped .3 or so seconds off my 1/4 mile back when i was bone stock.

    I'm curious as to why people claim no gains. If they are basing those on a butt dyno, then i would take that with a grain of salt.

    Is there any documented proof of before and after with no gains?

    It is more free flowing then the stock intake, which WILL net you hp gains. It is no more restrictive then the TRD or any other aftermarket intake. Only difference is an open filter rather then sealed box. When at WOT the IAT between a TRD and K&N will be very similar, as both will pull temps close to ambient when under WOT

    Only other way that the K&N would not provide gains, is if the MAF accuracy on it was bad and the ECU wasn't correcting for it. Which i can assure you is not the case. The MAF accuracy is very good on the K&N.

    I dynoed a K&N on the 3.4 and the 4.0 and saw no gains.

    The 3.4L I believe. I have never heard anything good about that model of the K&N CAI, lots of bad reviews about that one.

    Could you post the dyno chart for the 4.0L one (before & after)?

    I've attached two different dynos for the K&N intake, along with the conditions that the pulls were done in. Both dyno's showing gains.

    Ok......I have never seen a dyno sheet that was anywhere close to what they really gained, other than from Gadget. AirAid showed me a similar dyno reading as K&N's, yet when I dynoed their intake, NO gain. Not sure you can put all your faith in what they print. Same with those dynos of the throttle body spacers. I was under the impression you dynoed the intake.

    The gain seems to be at the top of the rpm range. Most DD's never reach that.

    I run the OEM filter. Seems to flow well, and it filters out the dirt very good.

    Its re useable, but my oil samples, when using a K&N filter, had silica levels maxed out.
