I would like to bleed the entire brake system (I have used a Motiv bleeder to flush the system). However, doing this doesn't address the ABS unit. You need the yota tool. There are alternatives but I'm not familiar enough with them. Like can you use a bluetooth OBDII with something like Torque? Which BT OBDII works best?

Ok cool, I'll go with one of those. I'll use it for may two or three projects right now and won't need it for a while so might as well try that one out. Thanks, the hoops on my ARB will soon be bye-bye with the help of one of those...

to each his own but when I buy tools its for life. I have had many cheap tools fail and there is nothing worse then having to go buy a new tool right in the middle of a project. but as for an angle grinder is not a complex tool, but if your hard on it, it will break. a few of the tools that failed came from HF but I still buy things from them with the same mentality, I only need it for this one thing. lol as I get older I realize I will most likely use it again, if its something to do with my truck or house. now im just babbling but if it was me I would buy another Makita as it has been my favorite.

That sucks what happened.

This happened to mine last week.

So it snowed heavy christmas eve. The snow plows were not up and running on the little streets. The cars were still driving on the roads and compacting the snow. Christmas was cold and the snow turned to ice. I made this same turn multiple times on both those days. The next morning however I was in 4hi chatting with my wife driving slow and safe. I started to make the right turn. Almost a U turn onto the street my inlaws live on. The snow had still not been plowed.

I started the turn like normal but the truck quickly decided to ignore my turning and braking. Even though I was going slow I hit a post (an older post) that was rotted on the bottom and broke upon contact with my relentless bumper. We started going over the edge and I thought for a moment. This is it.



The cable had been cut when they replaced the two new posts on the end and instead of sinking a new cable in the ground they Ubolted the two cables pieces together. This did not hold so the post just fell over. The saving grace was my truck was completely sideways and I hit a new post on the side of my truck that held us in place.







I was looking over the edge in shock. It happed so slow it felt unreal. Like this cant be happening. The ABS brake system would not let the tires stop.

My wife quickly snapped me in gear and said what do we need to do. I handed her my phone and said take pictures Ill grab the recovery gear. I couldnt back up because the post was resting against the side of my truck. I ran the winch to a tree across the road but this did not work as the back end if the truck started going down the hill while the front went up. I grabbed the snatch block given to me by my TW secret santa and ran the cable back to my slider. Once I was off the post. I had the wife spin the wheel in reverse while I winched sideways. This seemed to have the best result.



The good news is we were safe. My $250 diductible is nothing and the body will be fixed. I had to make the same turn several more times this weekend. What did I learn? 40 PSI is too high. A nice 30 in the mountains helps. Using my gears to brake gives me much more control. It was an experiance that will be with me for a long time.

 

Black ice going about 40-45 in the fast lane. Came up to the bridge and fish tailed it. Tried to correct it 3 times but it wasnt enough. Slid 3 lanes over and nailed that cement guard rail. Just glad I didnt get clipped or clip someone else. My buddy and I both walked away with just a knot on my knee

 

Dang glad your ok. Hows the truck? Running? Frame Damage?

 

Truck was sent to the tow yard and was released to the insurance agency today. They will have the final notice either tomorrow or Wednesday. When I was looking at it the frame looked pushed back to me but then again I was still shook up from the incident. I just know, as you can see, the grill, bumper, lights, fender flares, and possibly the driver door are all toast.

 

I do agree about buying for life. We'll see how long this last me before I judge it! haha

 

I've seen a few harbor freight grinders in jerry's shop... Just sayin.

 

now that's funny right there! just saying. its only a grinder. But when it comes to other tools I wouldn't buy HF.

 

Glad your all right. Tacos be crazy in the ice! a friend of mine rolled his on a turned he took every day, but black ice got him. rolled his first gen three to four rolls, totaled the truck walked away with a few bruises and scratches.

 

Is it really necessary? When I helped my friend flush and replace his on his FJ Cruiser, the fronts bled fine. The rears wouldn't bleed at all. Not a drop. I assumed it required a tool. To get around it, just turned the key in the ignition to On (left the engine off), and they power bled fast. Just had to keep topping off the reservoir more often. But boy was that a fast way to do it! I've never looked up if a tool was required on it.

Edit: Just looked it up on the FJ and I did it exactly how it's supposed to work with the ignition on and the pump doing the work. What's the procedure on the newer Taco? I thought the tool was only necessary if you let the reservoir run dry and air gets in the lines.

Pump the fronts, turn key to On for the rears.
