ABS on this truck is dangerous...

    What's really dangerous is rear abs only. When the fronts lock the rears are just along for the ride. Talk about pucker factor.

    Oh, wait, no, I had that far happen too many times until I installed a disable switch.

    I has a 2013 Chev 1500 2wd V6 4 spd auto work truck until recently, the thing was a total POS in my opinion, I hated driving it, but it outshone the Tacoma in 1 area. Guess where. Yup, the ABS worked well and it could still stop quickly even after the system activated and the brakes were modulated.

    It's not 4x4,snow,ice,gravel,dirt,pavement,driving too fast,bad driving,bad tires-did I leave anything out?
    Tacoma's ABS sucks,& it is unsafe, especially on snow,ice,gravel,dirt & pavement.

    According to this thread I am already dead due to my ABS! I must be a ghost that doesn't realize I died when my ABS kicked in and killed me and a family with a dozen young children with an endangered Bengal tiger. Damn that ABS!!! DAMN IT TO HELL

    So, let's see if I have this right. If I am sliding on ice at say 18mph, I would be able to come to a quicker stop applying brakes without abs? *Note, I also am not convinced having abs would of stopped me any quicker.
    And, when the truck turns sideways, still sliding and exhibiting Newtons first law because I did not have abs and was unable to potentially steer to safety what do I do then?

    Oh that's right, nothing.

    ABS increases stopping distances on low traction surfaces

    ABS does allow you to retain the ability to steer while braking on surfaces that provide enough traction to allow the braking portion of the pulse to actually do some braking

    ABS was designed for surfaces that provide some traction , and for the panic stop scenario which I would argue generally does not occur at speeds under 20mph , which is where ABS's inherent disadvantages outweigh it's advantages

    On snow , at or below 20mph , I would much rather plough and manually control my braking like pre-ABS vehicles

    On ice , with or without ABS , you can end up sideways and not recover because there is no traction available

    Bestop, Child Seats, petrified french fry, dog hair, empty Mtn Dew cans cracked windshield, scratches.
    ditching the ABS and the throttle cutout when sliding gives me the control to have my truck do what I want when I want it.

    I've had equal parts of trucks with and without ABS and so far this is the worst with ABS

    I think the best compromise would be to have ABS not engage at speeds below 20mph , while allowing the driver to still toggle the VSC / TRAC modes as desired

    As stated before, I have never had an issue with my '09 and its ABS at any speed. It has saved me on several occasions by letting me steer my way out of the situation. I'll keep it.
