The 2016 Volt was unveiled. I am hoping we get a sneak peak of the Tacoma before the 12th. Curious about the new Titan too.

As far as no one wanting a stale truck, I think you're correct. But with new front ends and interior upgrades, it really becomes the same reliable truck, with new and refreshing features. That's why when I just bought my '12 used, I didn't want anything older than that because I wanted the updated interior and front end. I think they really did a great job with this design and it has the best looking front end and interior of the 2nd gen (IMO).

If the base of the truck is designed to be timeless, then refreshing the rear and front end of it will be easy to redesign and blend seamlessly.

10 years is probably the max for this, i think 7 would be ideal.

The success of the Tacoma has been in part due to its reliability and fan-boy affair in the aftermarket arena. If your refresh is too soon, aftermarket availability becomes less and more expensive.

This is actually the reason I think it is more than likely that I will buy a 2015 just after the announcement on the 12th. I've got bumpers and suspension changes I want to do rather quickly after purchase and it is unlikely that will be something I can do with a 2016. It was a few years post 2005 before the aftermarket flushed out and even the minor body changes a few years ago screwed up things like front bumpers. Heck, even this year on the apparently unchanged 2015 an unexpected minor mounting change made OME nitrochargers not fit on the rear. With a 2016 I'm afraid I'll be shut out of the aftermarket for longer than I would like as I plan on doing a lot of overland/expedition travel starting fall of 2015 (and would I even get a 2016 by then is a different concern).

Related to that, I've got a number of minor mods to do as well and the wealth of information available for the 2nd gen is enormous being around for ten years now. I want to be the guy searching the forum for knowledge, not the poor sap doing it for the first time and posting how to do it for everyone else

So unless the 2016 significantly improves payload without growing at all in size I'm probably sticking with the 2015 for my new purchase specifically because of the established aftermarket.

And lastly, R&D in the aftermarket costs money so infrequent changes create and maintain a healthy aftermarket. If you build it the same year in and year out the aftermarket will come.

YUP! 6 more big ones, just hoping we'll see tons of photos and (details). Ie: Motor, Heated Mirrors, Interior shots etc...

I'm in holding position to get a Skookum deal on a new 14 sitting on lot or wait till late fall of 2015 here so really anxious to see and make a decision soon myself. As others have stated however I'm leaning towards existing gen mainly cause I'm impatient on mods and that will take some good amount of time for solid aftermarket solutions to be in place.

Sometimes I wish I could just like a comment on here. Consider this "liked".

I also never want to be an early adopter, or buy the first year of a completely new model. Only with cars though, anything else technology, gimme gimme gimme!

Maybe we'll get lucky and it'll have a larger/stronger rear end for the elocker.

I really hope it's not a radical design departure. Simply because the 2nd Gen has maintained its look and still looks modern even though it's 10 years old. As long as the new style has a clean, timeless design, it'll be nice. Heck the 1st gens barely look dated.

Wonder if it will look anything like this.... I know from what we have seen in the "sneak peaks" it doesn't look exactly like this, but I could see them bringing in some elements from the 4-runner.

I don't really care so much about the styling (as long as it's not hideous) give us some things like rear disk brakes, more fuel efficient engines - that kind of stuff.

I like this a lot except for the shape of the cab, too tall and Land Crusier-looking.

Well considering how Toyota already released a pic of the grill, I'd say it won't look like that. Thank God.

I wish they bring the better interior of the 4runner to the Tacoma at least

I almost bought a white 4runner limited because of the redwood leather.

True, one of the few things I wish my Taco had. Not sure why, but I hardly ever see leather in these trucks. I see it way more often in every other truck.

The Tacoma has been known to be utilitarian in features...

I may be in denial, but I prefer not to have leather. It's way too hot here and it would scorch my back, not to mention making it impossible to cool off with cold A/C to your face and heat behind you. I love my WO neoprenes. Also, I don't have to worry about spilling anything or getting mud on these, and I would worry about that with leather (even though you can clean both).

But that doesn't mean I stand behind having less features. Need to step it up. If the Limited Tacoma wasn't such a joke, maybe we would see more Limiteds and therefore more leather seats.

They should step up the limited version for sure. Something really bothers me about charging a premium for fake leather and plastic chrome wheels/handles on an SR5 suspension.

From experience, vented leather seating is awesome. No more sweaty back even in the peak of summer.
