Plasti-derped them. I had never used plasti-dip before but figured I'd try it and it's been awesome. Had them dipped for over a year and still look great. The fj has been ran through many auto car washes and are holding up great.

I have had this for about a month now and just recently found this forum. I have been reading this entire thread at work over the course of the last week and a half and I am loving it. I cant wait until I start modding it. I want a 3 inch lift, some bigger wheels and tires, new front bumper with built in winch and brush guard, maybe a snorkel if I feel I will actually need it. But currently I have another project taking up my spare money. Anyways here she is.

2007 with 80k miles - it originated in Hawaii too!

Nice! Congrats on the new purchase! Being that your in FL....maybe you can start off with bigger tires as a start. Meaning that you probably don't have a lot of rocky terrain to off road on (so you wouldn't need too much armor).

Traded out of my 2007 DCab TRD Off Road Taco, lifted and much more with 140k on it a few weeks ago for a 2012 TT all red FJ with 37k on it.....the Trail Teams additions are a good start but I will be adding/changing some stuff for sure. I loved my Taco and had real buyers remorse for a week or so but I'm getting used to the FJ.

You guys will find the FJ a very handy vehicle... I call it my Swiss Army knife of trucks. Big rear door, plenty of cargo space, 4 wheels like a mountain goat and is typically as reliable as most everything else Toyota makes. Can't really go wrong.

One thing nice is if you go to a double din head unit make sure it takes camera input.. most do, then wire your backup camera to that. A 7" screen is much better than the square in your rear view mirror.

Otherwise it's the normal stuff.. .winch, bumper, lights, cb...etc etc etc.

I can say with great certainty that I will be keeping my FJ, one of those 'been in the family' trucks. Everything has a price but my FJ would be VERY expensive. :)

    Enjoy!

Part of the reason I bought mine was the "not gonna be made after this year" factor. Ordered up a Ricochet air dam & Industrial Forming roll top console cover [FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]today, husky front floor liners and AVS ventshades last week......haven't even touched the expensive stuff yet, still have a handful of "inexpensive" things to do. Damn I wish I could control myself sometimes.

Tell me about it. Installed the sliders PureFJ had on sale with free shipping a couple weeks ago.Couldn't pass on those.
Just ordered the PIAA 520's for the bumper along with the factory switch and harnesses and relay. This is as bad as owning a Taco!

Rainy long weekends and time to spend on the internet are a bad/good thing....figured I might as well cross a few more "small items" off the list. Ordered a new rear old school FJ 4WD emblem & the last beige/yellow 1951 Toyota emblem that a guy on the blue room had still. Then I figured those red Hella supertones sure would look sweet behind the grill on the red truck, so those are coming too.

I had the PIAA 520's behind the grill on my Taco (great lights) , gotta do the factory switch it's so much cleaner. I'm thinking the Rigid lower grill with some amber combo lights that I can run as fogs are what's going on the FJ, for sure a factory switch setup.

Thinking about selling my first gen and picking up one of these.
Would this be a better dd? Also anything I should look for/avoid when looking?

I had a 2nd gen and sold it. Then to a 1st gen and then sold that and now in a FJ and it is my favorite truck so far.

Honestly its the same as buying a Tacoma just more pricey.

What about frame rust? Need to check for that or are they generally pretty good?
