Waterproof Fuse and Relay Boxes - RFRM (10 relay) & RTMR (5 Relay) no Blue Sea/ SPOD

So in the other thread timberlandtaco gave me the run down on the five pin relay. He was unsure on one pin, could you elaborate? Then if I were to use the switch everyone likes the contura rocker style. Do I need two different hot lines from the fuse block, one to the relay and one to the switch?

 

SO a relay can be configured in MANY ways. The relay could be used as another trigger to activate the same accessory. So hypothetically switched from headlights and from an actual switch. Thats just one config. Check the many diagrams I posted in the other thread.

So on the running of wires. Yes and no. If you get one from me I make n all encompassing package. Harness and all. The Switch needs +/- and a positive to the accessory or relay.

What that equates to is, in the harness I give you one fused constant hot+, one negative-, one ignition on+, and all your triggers for the relays+(5 leads on the small box).

You simply either use the Ignition+ or Fused Hot+ as the main power to the switch, and then hook up the corresponding lead to the relay. You can jumper all the positives together or use a combination of some of them on all the time and others on with ignition. Jumper all the negatives together too. Now the switch is powered and ready to do its thing. That would be the basic setup with the 3 pins on a switch. If there are more pins, than the switch is setup with more features.

 

Hey. What's the best way to wire 6 of these switches in? I'm gonna piggyback the grounds and I planned on piggybacking power but the logo portion of the switch is on no matter what when it has power. How do I wire the switches to where the logo portion only pulls power when the key is on. I want to be able to use the switches functions with the key off.

 

This may explain why my amber light is very dim. Hmm going to investigate later

 

Pin 7 and 6 need to be wired up to your illumination wires.

You could also have just got the non dimmer version.

 

How do I tell which ones are my illumination wires?

 

You have a multi meter? I will post pics later today. Light green stripped wires one has a white stripe. If I remember correctly

Pull a stock switch out and use the multimeter on it. Put your passing lights on so the interior switches light up and mess with the dimmer while the multimeter is on them

 

Op, one thing I would like to do is to have my dimmer switch be able to go to full bright. I fund that I cannot see the radio controls if I have my lights on and its raining or some other reason I have my lights on during the day. The Taco is the first vehicle I have had that doesn't got to full bright on the dimmer switch.
Any idea what I could do as a work around?

 

My initial idea was to put a switch across the back of the dimmer switch, but would prefer just to use the dimmer switch if I could....

I was going to say swap all the lights out with LED's then they would SHINE bright and work with the dimmer.

 

This means I'm going to have to get clever with my oil catch can

Haha man I wish I had one, it's on the side where the brake master cylinder is, and it's held on by one of the two factory bolts that's there. I'll see if I can dig up a pic, I'm like 3 hrs away from my truck right now and I won't see it until Saturday. (have company vehicle right now)

 

This may be stupid. But what does a oil catch can do? I get the obvious but is it necessary? Or is it just a piece to help

 

Is it just the factory TRD Supercharger one? If so, I'll have you covered on that configuration.

 

No, craptacular eBay one. I might be able to push it off into a corner, jimmy rig something to get it out of the way. I really need one of your fuse boxes since everything is pretty much tied to the battery and wires are everywhere lol. Do you kits come with instructions? Cuz I might need them haha.

 

As of right now, no , no instructions. I am actively working on them . Lots of times it is easier for people to just call or text to get the immediate help and I take care of it on the spot. A real Live person, the builder and tech, on the phone with direct access to me. No machines.

I am going to get the instructions done. Thats a promise. in the mean time, this thread has everything in it.

as for the catch can, once you have a pic, and take some quick measurements, I bet I an make a mount you are happy with and might be able to just make a 'wing' off one side as the mounting point for it. Clean and tidy
