I assume this style did not have the panic button on the side? neither does the other style you are posting? Or panic button at all for that matter?

That style does have the panic button. You just can't see in the picture. The new design might be all black and no chrome. He's a bit busy making molds for a new Honda key style I'm going to sell. New flip design could take months or even a year to get into production.
I'm a small business and they only deal with me on their spare time.

No stress. So maybe a bulk order of 100 units wouldn't help the cause? I'm sure you could get a group buy going and take payment upfront in order to get them expedited if it made a difference.

I mean, as of this morning, there are now 145,360 users here on TW. I'm sure we could muster up a couple hundred units worth of sales.

100? Ha! They would laugh. The re-designed honda took me ordering 5,000 pieces in order for them to make. Hopefully I can get a prototype soon.

Recently received my all-in-one key and was able to get it cut and programmed as a new master for my 2007 Taco. Clicker programmed well and the range is so-far so-good. Looking forward to minimizing the space taken in my pocket. Thanks!

Found a similar design that will work with my remote. Supposedly shell is the best in Asia, waterproof and the coating on the outside is top notch. Problem is they don't come with panic buttons. I'm getting some in next week and will test.

I ordered the flat black. They come in a bunch of different colors.

yes, I have done the mods
If anyone does have one of those VW keys, I'll arm-wrestle Skygear for it. And lose. And then take the next one for sale.

not to be picky here, but I like the look of the VW style much better. This one looks too generic. The other one looks like it belongs to our vehicles or to a vehicle. I have seen similar looking versions to what you pictured there in person in the past and was not impressed with them .

The other style does remind me of the VW/Audi/Mercedes Bosch style flip keys.

Shop experience with the OEM VW style key...

    Biggest issues I see....
    Key ring break
Huge rubber pad buttons wear down
    Key spring sometimes go limp

New supplier I'm talking about flip keys fix some issues.

    Key ring is re-enforced
Buttons are smaller and hard plastic

They didn't make mention of spring.

From a style point, I love the VW style.
From a shop owner that doesn't want to deal with pissed off customers I try to go with what's the best for me. Reliability wise. It can be the ugliest key out there but if it's reliable... I'll use it.

If I was a huge company I would go with the vw style as probably would have employees to deal with the problems. Lol!

I don't really care what it looks like personally. I do agree that the VW flip is very nice looking, but for the very reasons the OP just stated, I would trade form over function.

FWIW OP, the VW key has some side to side play from the key mounting to the fob, if your new unit has addressed that, then it would feel like a more robust unit. Not saying the play is enough to cause alarm, just a side note.
