I'd go cab high with tracks installed from the factory. Then buy feet, crossbars and whatever accessories you need.
My shell was ordered with tracks and delivered without. I have a rain check to have dealer install them and Leer will fully warrant installation.
I'd love to go with front runners II on cab and shell but it's almost $1600.00 for just the racks.

OZ. forgot about Prinsu. I even have it bookmarked! Better option than front runner and he's local to me, no shipping.

Those look very cool. That's about as seamless a set up as you can get! So I'd have to ditch the OEM racks in lieu of these and add another set to the shell. Seems like a pricey option, but I'll have to investigate...

    THanks!

Do all the makers most often discussed (Leer, snugtop, ARE) offer tracks as an option? I'm assuming these are pretty universal and work with a variety of racks, no?

Yes. From what I recall while shopping a few years ago, Leer offered rack options from Thule, and A.R.E offered racks from Yakima. Can't remember about Snuggie.

Honestly, it doesn't matter what rack you get on your shell, you'll make it work for what you want.

I have the A.R.E. with Yakima rack and love it very much. I load it up and it really takes the weight and works well.

Here it is in Death Valley, from last week:

I know Yakima & Thule tracks are universal. I have a couple of boxes of parts for both and they are almost interchangeable. Leer uses Thule tracks/rack components. Snugtop and ARE use Yakima. Not sure about any other manufacturers.

If you are ordering a shell, I think it's better to have them installed in the factory simply because it's warranties.

I just found out about this thread. Here is my SnugTop Rebel XTR:

    End of the summer:

Just built these Rotopax mounts for it before I left for my Christmas vacation. I still need to add more bolts to the driver side:
