You are comparing threshold breaking to ABS , and yes you are correct, but that is not real world...

If you take the same car, same tires, same conditions, same speed only difference being ABS. Apply the same breaking technique as the average driver executes, mashing the pedal, ABS will stop shorter.

Increase the speed in the same tests and distances between the two will increase in favor of abs, as every time you double your speed the distance required to stop is squared.

Like I said, everyone is correct.

I'd argue snow is a high traction surface, since it piles so well. Especially the wet stuff on pavement. Like I've said many times, I agree with your point on snow. However, where I live, snow quickly turns to either packed snow which may as well be ice or it turns into a true sheet of ice with melt water on top. On those surfaces I think a very well tuned ABS will beat out skidding by a long shot, not to mention how skidding will usually put you out of control. My ABS functions fine. Not the best but it's not my Dodge either. I think some of the ABS systems in the Tacoma must be very flawed though. Hence why I'd love to see some videos and testing.

    No you're not correct? :p

The static (rolling) coefficient of a tire on snow is 0.30 the kinetic (sliding) is 0.20. Unless you are talking about deep snow which is a piling surface than you are correct again.

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
Well, I'm with OZ on this. You guys just keep avoiding accidents using your finely honed skills. :luvya: and skidding may or may not put you out of control but I want to make that decision.. Good night. See you tomorrow!

Bedtime at 8:30? I guess you two got upset at the science. Just kidding btw, if you want full control more power to you. I think for the average person though ABS will likely help them out rather than kill them. Technically, it's you who will need finally honed skills once you need to brake. Me? I'll just concentrate on deciding where to go when the ABS monster kicks in. To each his own opinion. Good night.

Yes, OZ is know for his elegance ;).

Anyways this threads been done a long time. Everyone is just arguing circles around each other. What starts out as a weird 5 mph glitch on this truck turned into a genuine TW cluster hump of internet facts, fiction, and rumor.

Yo man, I wasn't attacking you. Don't be mad. You are correct, and the links you provided are correct and they said what I said. If the surface piles and you lock your wheels and don't threshold break, you will stop sooner without than with ABS in deep snow, sand, gravel... But, if you lock your wheels on any other surface, asphalt, concrete, light snow, water, ice... you wont.

I didn't intend to upset anyone and Im sorry if I have.

I'd appreciate not being called a 'tard for, oh, the third time by you when you get upset. That and other things.

I even agreed with you on several things about this topic. I provided evidence for my views and debated the merits of others. All I get back from you on every thread I speak on is sarcasm and demeaning insults. Anyways I'm done with that, can this thread get back on topic?
