I wouldn't want the bed and cab to be so tied together that one can't flex without the other flexing with it.

you're really not seeing how all they did was changed the front clip, tailgate and the quarter panels? the parts they cant change are there... same cab, roof, doors, windshield...its the same truck

I'm sure they changed the interior to...but it will be the same basic lay out, same headroom, legroom etc. they cant change that unless they actually built a new truck fromm the ground up, which this is not.

OF COURSE i could be very wrong, I'm just looking at pictures...but i saw my 2012 tacoma with new body panels in this truck within .5 seconds.

1- Half tons used to have all C-channel frames. I don't see why a 1/4 needs a boxed frame other maybe on the offroad model.
2- Disc brakes get destroyed by gravel. I drive gravel so I find drums to be an advantage.
3- Trucks have separate cabs and boxes. I've never cared about the connection as long as the body lines flow.
4- Even the Colorado is cramped. I've test drove in the backseat. It's not any better really than the Tacoma.
5- If they put the 3.5L Lexus motor in this truck it'll be a little better than the chevy 3.6L without the 3.6L's known issues.
6- They won't ever let 1/4 tons challenge half tons for payload. It protects each segment to keep them as they are. Maybe a few hundred pounds more would be nice, but I can take a good amount of lumber and tools in my truck as is. Anything more I use a full sized 3/4 ton.
7- Only thing that I find hangs low on a Tacoma is the y-pipe, and that's a $300 fix.

If this refresh is anything like the Tundra refresh you'll be surprised how much they did inside. I'm not going to buy a 2016, but to me what will make or break this truck will be the new, or lack of new, V6 and how it does fuel wise. Other than that, as long as the rest of the truck comes with similar options to the Colorado the Tacoma will keep it's market share.

    Don't fix what ain't broke.

    ok... hey, I'm wrong.

this is a new, from the ground up tacoma. New frame, new everything. Im just seeing the same exact truck under redesigned panels and front clip somehow and thats not the case.

I'm all for being wrong on this one...but i just see the same truck, new body panels. And somehow i think the interior will be the same story.. new switch designs and dash materials in the same basic layout, just a guess of course.

i wanted this to be a new NEW truck... i sold my 2012 to be ready to pull the trigger on this. I really hope I'm very wrong, but i don't think so

This is what's wrong about these 3rd gen threads is a majority are just downers who aren't more open minded. Yes we've all heard "it's the same damn truck" and the people posting have got to know others have already stated that. It's old, it's annoying, and it doesn't bring us any closer to seeing what's inside this thing.
You can cry about it all you want but at the end of the week toyota already made up their mind. It is not a 2nd gen, it is redesigned inside and clearly out get over it. It's a new generation.

It has to. That was the whole point of the "mule" spy shots.

Yes, but the drivetrain isnt something guaranteed to break, and will most likely outlive any battery. There said to last about 8 years or around 100,000 miles.

Typically you get a hybrid to save money by not buying as much gas. You would probably save yourself gas money over the long run, but if you have to pay $2300 all at once to replace batteries in a vehicle with just 100,000 miles, that doesn't seem worth it to me.

Again, if it's something that wouldn't be keept long, then it would probably be worth it.

The new design will grow on everyone.... Throw some bumpers, long travel, nice wheels, 35s and some lights on That bitch and everyone will be drooling.

The majority of the people on this site who buy it will mod the crap out of it and they will look way different.
