I think the coldest I've seen was -22. Just Western MA, but my parents live at 2000 ft elevation so it tends to be colder there and gets more snow than the rest of the area.

Not too bad here, about 21 deg outside at the moment. Not sure what it is with the windchill though.

Woot, a few buddies and I just booked the Lonesome Lake Hut for the end of Feb. Going to do a weekend snowshoe/ camping trip up there. Pretty pumped.

That's up by Cannon Mountain, right?
    Congrats!
I'm going winter camping up in Medford ME the first weekend in Feb. with some friends. We usually hunt/fish/shoot things during the day and then once it gets dark we burn wood, drink booze, and tell lies instead.

Ya, I think across the valley from it. Tentative plan is to do a night hike/snowshoe up Friday to the hut (conditions allowing of course) since it's only like a 1.75 miles ~ 1,200 vertical ft traverse up to the hut from the Franconia Notch (Canon) parking lot. Then hike/ snowshoe up to the top of Canon Saturday and loop back to the hut, then home Sunday. Going to have to dust off my winter bag and Jet Boil.

Sounds like a good time!
As to the jetboil, doesn't the lodge use wood heat? Couldn't you just cook your meal on the woodstove?

Good question, further research shows that it does have a woodstove so I guess I could. However, since in the winter it's "self serve" and we have to hump all of our own food up there. Consequently I'll be bringing mountain house freeze dried meals. And since I'm impatient i'll just bring my jetboil and have hot water in short order. Plus, for the hike Saturday i'll be needing my jet boil anyways.

Ah, I see. Yeah, I'd be lugging Mountain House too if I was humping that kind of hill.
Where we're going winter camping this year actually has a road in (unplowed), so in years past I've been able to drive in. But if there's hills on the way in and (more importantly!) on the way out, so if there's more than 18" of snow we're stuck hoofing it. But we usually load the stuff into a couple of jet sleds and can bring everything in one trip.

Basically. You just open the pouch, pour boiling water into it, let it sit for like 5 minutes and eat.

Sleds would be nice, but that kind of ruins the whole "hiking" part

Shrug. Only on the downhills. The downhill stretches are a LOT more fun than the uphill stretches are. :D

Looks like the same truck with a tundra front end and a ford tailgate . I bet it has the same issues still .
