    This ^^^^

In my early active duty days, the common Op Ctr schedule was 2 day shifts, 2 swing shifts, 2 mid shifts, 4 off; 12 hr shifts was 2 days, 2 nights, 4 off. Worst schedule (short manning) was 12 hr shifts 2 days, 2 nights, 2 off--that one sucked because you slept most of first day off, did all your "gotta do" chores the next day, then back to work. Felt like you never had any real time off. Changing schedules short term is always tough IMHO.
    Sounds riveting  ...

In the navy we would do 12 on 12 off. Every port visit the 2 teams would switch. That's fair except when you pull in for 2 days out for 2 days for a month straight. so 2 days of noon to mid, 2-3 days off with a duty day of 6am to 4:30 plus watches in there, then 2 days on mid to noon. Horrible.

Yep, when I hit the recruiting station Summer of 1983 I narrowed it down to Navy or Air Force; went Air Force because I didn't think I'd like ship duty. ;) After working in the Air Force Rescue Coordination Center, I kind of wish I'd checked out the Coast Guard better; and after working a Joint Task Force with Marines, I have a deep respect for the Corps ... those are the only two times I second guessed the decision of 18 yr old me. But in the end, I have no regrets, I have no idea where I'd be without the Air Force and my wife; but I know I wouldn't be as well off or have had as much fun. :)

MQQSE I have a float switch I will send you for your pump. I bought the float switch thinking I would wire it to a light and if the pump pit overfilled the light would turn on to warn me. You cover shipping Im happy to send it your way.

 Howdy Gang ... 32 mins into my shift and it's going to be a slow one. Easy money :D

    How's everyone tonight?

That's very generous of you, but robssol is the one working the pump situation ... and he was at work in a hospital, so the parts aren't costing him anything.

But thanks, and don't be a stranger here.

I guess one good thing about my schedule is rarely ever do I fall out of routine. 8.5 hour shift, 7 days a week. I take 1 day off every 2 or 3 weeks. But sucks when school starts back next week. blahhhh.

Woot! I actually got 8 hours of sleep and feel rested tonight!

Was up late wrenching though. All those parts used to be a dirt bike :D. Tore it apart for a major overhaul to keep maintenance minimal over the next few years while I'm in school.

Thanks, we do have a high level alarm (float type) in the pit. The power plant across the street gets the alarm then call me. I was just verifying that the pump was coming on with its float, well below the high level:D
BTW the problem was a switching relay, supposed to switch between pump1 and 2, it was hanging up and neither pump would run. It was replaced today. All good.
