Don't hate Toyotas, just not buying another one for me. Do you have to be a loyalist FANBOY like yourself, to be a member of the forum?

    It's called free speech.

I don't have to be on the kum ba yah alter and think this is the ONLY truck in the world worth buying.

This is nothing new, nothing innovative. Just recycled as they still sell to all you loyalists. I buy the best product, this AIN'T it any longer.

Agree or disagree, that's my OPINION!

This is just the same old thing with some new metal. You keep paying 30-35k for this, I am not.

Oh, I forgot, you have probably only ever bought used.

I've owned these damn things for over 25 years.

If this is really the best they can come up with them I'm going to Nissan and their Cummins next.

I'll wait until drivetrain details are released to form an opinion. New body styles always take a little while to grow on people.

I am kind of disappointed too. Not totally but kind of. When I saw the cab was the same I was like "D#$mit, Toyota!". Was really hoping for a ground-up redesign.
So far the response has been overwhelmingly negative. It seems like other manufacturers are aggressively offering new features/designs and Toyota just keeps slapping new makeup on old vehicles. I wonder if when you are at the top sales-wise, you just don't have to try as hard??

Nope, not unless they stretched an 18" tire over them. I enhanced the contrast in Photoshop so you could see the tire size better.

It doesn't look like a new body style though. Some automotive journalists are calling it a "full redesign". Doesn't look like a full redesign to me.

So your X-ray vision can see the interior and engine? Basing your opinion that the truck is the same on the fact that the roof and pillars are the same and the dimensions are the same without knowing the drivetrain or interior makes your opinion uninformed. But hey, it is your American right to be uninformed.

How do you know there is not new features or tech under the hood? Would you rather have an engine that dates back to 2008 like the GM twins and a new shape cab with the 4Runner's 1GR or a newer, more powerful, more efficient engine and the roof and pillars looking the same? You don't get both for free. Me? Give me the new engine every day of the week. The 1GR in my 2010 4Runner was fine, but it is 5 years old now and doesn't have direct injection or the new, smarter VVTiW that Toyota rolled out on the AR turbo engine (let's it run super efficient Atkinson cycle at low load). Give me the new engine tech any day.

My basic point is that you have to pick your battles. You can try to do a ground up change every time but you might overspend on R&D and the economy tanks killing off the model. There might be huge reliability issues when you change everything over.

I am not bashing it. It will grow on me. My 2002 Tacoma has treated me so well over the years I don't think I could anything else other than a Tacoma. You're right in that I need the whole full picture first to make a final judgement.
However, Toyota has a lot of new competition coming down the pipe. As segment leader they don't have to worry about R&D when they haven't had to do any in a decade.
Toyota is a huge company, they could have made it new from the ground up.

Hate to break it to ya, Colorado is 26 hwy, with 305 hp. I test drove one though, and to be honest, mpg aside, it doesn't 'feel' any faster than the Taco.

I'm not sure why anyone would expect a complete redesign or why Toyota would do one. So it looks pretty similar to the current gen? I like the current style. Tailgate looks a little more stout, and appears to have a lock? Front end will grow on most people. What if the interior is much improved like many would like? And the engine more efficient and truly gets 25 mpg? And what if 90% of the issues of the past are in the past? Then I can buy a truck that looks similar to the one I have and like, but it's more efficient, has a more comfortable and updated interior, and any frame or suspension issues have been addressed. That doesn't seem like a bad deal to me. I like seeing a Tacoma and knowing its a Tacoma by how it looks, not because I can read it on the tailgate. And that's how it is with a '96 or a 2015. And the 2016 fits that model. Let's see what's behind the doors and under the hood.

Even with 305HP, the new GM's have less torque than the current Tacoma 4.0, why it doesn't feel as powerful.

Being segment leader doesn't mean anything when it comes down to dollars and cents. They aren't moving 600k a year like GM and Ford. Just because they managed to run the previous truck for an extended time and was likely profitable doesn't mean they are willing to lose money on the next truck or the next truck can go 11 model years.

If you built houses for a living and made bank leading up to the 2008 crash, would you be OK losing money on the houses you built post crash? You made tons of money leading up to 2008, right?

That is effectively what all these comments about asking Toyota to give them the moon for nothing are doing. It has to make a business case in the future. Past earnings don't make their stockholders say "well, I think we've earned enough money."

If they were too tight with the budget or spent the money in the wrong places, they'll pay the price. Until you are forced to hand your money over for an inferior product, they are ultimately forced to cater to the buyer in price and product. Don't like it, don't buy it.

Interior refinements and powertrain are what would win me over as well at this point. There was nothing wrong with the styling other than that it hadn't changed much at all for ten years - can't blame them for trying something new. I don't hate it. At least it isn't getting bigger again in any meaningful way.

Better MPG, maybe a 7 speed manual and 8 speed auto, and convenience features (fancy drop-in touch screen aside) that aren't exactly the same as on my old '95 Toyota. I had a lot of neat toys on my 2011 Mini that I really miss having...

I'm amused by how many people get excited about the small stupid things "it has a tailgate lock" wow! Seriously they make those aftermarket you know...

I'm also not a person mad about no power rear slider my FX4 has this never use it. My 3 last Tundras all had power rear window used that feature maybe 2-3 times between all 3 trucks over a period of 8 years?

Bottom line as of now I'm not liking the exterior revisions however I surely will want to see interior and some drivetrain specs.

Little things that are not easy aftermarket items and are DIY items that would be decent to see would be useful heated side mirrors and some updating on interior.

The exterior as many have mentioned could look better in non limited trims. Color keyed as well "hopefully" some different grill or changes with the other models. Really hoping they have a few variations at Detroit otherwise many will base mainly negative thoughts if only a limited is shown.

    My opinion..

It's not that I don't like it. Jury is still out with me. I will have to see interior and specs for new motor(s). I was just expecting a full redesign and it's not. Kind of disappointing is all.
