New Tacoma to be shown in Detroit

I didn't say, "it has a tailgate lock! Awesome!" I was just pointing out a few things different from the 2nd gen. I installed an aftermarket locking handle, I know it's not a big deal. My point was it has some of the old style I like, with a few additions people have asked for. The interior and what's under the hood are what I want to see.

Can we change the name of this forum back to Gen2.2? I called it early on that this was going to be a face-lift (with apparently some rear-end work as well) and it looks to be pretty correct. I wouldn't be surprised if they're going to do what Subaru's done with the STI since 2004. Same engine, nearly the same suspension, visually slightly different but essentially the same platform. I would put money down that this frame is almost exactly the same dimensions as the Gen 2.

 

Sounds like someone is back back tracking here. An of course you know first hand Toyota isn't going to bring a new engine?

New vid, at least Toyota is showing that it will be off road oriented and not just a grocery getter.

 

Where did you hear it was a new frame?

 

It can still get groceries. You can simply drag them further into the boonies.

 

I meant the mirror in the cabin. There's a front facing something or other on it.

Just a bit of FYI, almost all new models use a percentage of parts from the last generation. No need to redesign every axle, sensor, and fastener on a vehicle. If this new Tacoma comes with all the extra goodies people have been asking for along with a new engine and transmission it'll be a success in my books.

 

Oh no the license plate brackets are the same! Nope definently not a full redesign.

And it still uses... wheels... like the old 1st and 2nd gen.
