You are correct about the 4.3 being all new. It is based on the same architecture as the new V8s. It has direct injection, cylinder deactivation, and all of the other features of the more common 5.3. Since they came out over a year ago, we haven't seen any problems at all with these engines, however, as years go by, maybe I won't be as impressed. I still think it would have been the better choice for the Colorado. At least it's designed for trucks, not cars and crossovers like the 3.6. JMO.

Agreed on all points, but like I said I'm sure when GM was choosing the motors they avoided the 4.3L because it was already in the Silverado. I'm sure they don't want Silverado owners knowing the engine is the main powerplant in a smaller truck that will out perform there truck with it equipped.

The 3rd gen Tacoma copied the low front bumper of the Colorado....

Fuel economy standards continue to lower the bar... literally.

Nothing wrong with using the bottom-feeder engine in the full-size truck as the top engine in the mid-size. The 1GR-FE was the Tundra's base engine until last year.

True enough, but the 4.3L is a bottom feeder engine with some decent numbers. I'm just making the suggestion that may of been part of the decision making process. Something tells me Chevy doesn't want there buyers moving to a very capable 4.3 L Colorado from there Silverado.

^I think the decision-making process was centered around fuel economy. The 4.3L concedes about 2 mpg.

There's nothing stopping GM from deliberately understating the truck's towing and payload capacity to maintain separation between the Silverado and Colorado.

I almost sat out but had to bite the bullet on a 2013 DCSB, I just couldn't wait.

I thought about waiting for the Canyon, but that was another year away. I then thought about the diesel option, which again, is a longer wait. The Frontier? More waiting... I couldn't see an end in sight where I'd be happier owning one compared to a 2013 Gen 2 taco so I did it...

Now if Jeep ever comes out with a Brute-like DCSB wrangler then I'm all-in. Would sell my taco in a heartbeat for an unlimited JK with a bed and the 3.6 pentastar

But but, it's a car engine!

Those are pretty sweet, never understood why Jeep never did that. After watching top gear US with the brute, that is pretty sweet!

If you believe the announcements from Fiat, you are going to see a more road friendly Unibody Jeep Wrangler soon. That's not good for all these Jeep diehards.

Meh, it looks like someone plastiderp'd the side steps and front grill. If the price is right it's a nice package but it's nothing you couldn't do on your own with an afternoon and a rattle can.

I would of been more impressed if it had some customizing on the interior, blacked out headlamps, and black rims with chrome accents. That would be a nice looking Canyon.

There isn't as much difference as you think between "car" and "truck" engines. The 4.6L V8 in the Tundra is the same as the one in the Lexus LS460, just without direct injection and tuned to run regular gas.

I recently saw a Colorado in person. I was very surprised how big it looked. Granted, I didn't see it next to a Tacoma but it looked every bit as big as a Silverado. It looks quite nice inside and out. What I don't understand though is how it's priced so high compared to the FULL SIZE Silverado. I don't know how they expect to sell many when the Silverado is riiiiiiiiight close to it and not much more.

I think I'm in the minority though. If the Tundra was the same price as the Tacoma I still wouldn't buy it. It's too much truck!

I really like the look of the ZR2 concept. That thing is bad ass out of the box with a smaller footprint.

^That approach angle looks good. Hidden winch too? I'd have liked to see something better than Derpatracs on there though :p
