    Just food for thought:

The target design for the 2015 Chevy Colorado and GMC Canyon, save for front and rear ends....was the 2nd Gen Tacoma....a 10-year old design, LOL!

Just comparing the last known offerings of the GMT 355's (2012 I think) to the 2015 twins. Very similar to the 2012 to 2015 Tacomas. Especially the side glass.

Truck doesn't look too, too bad. But, the grill looks like the 12+ but a lot bigger, I don't like how the at the bottom of the rear of the bed sides it looks like they molded it to match the bumper, and the contour lines above the fender flares - reminds me of the Silverado's and Sierra's, it's like a fender flare for the fender flare's. I'll just have to wait until I see it in person.

Like many, I am still disappointed. In fact, the general consensus tends to be disappointment.
Yeah, I know, wait for the engines, the Super Duty did the same, blah, blah, blah...
    But...10 YEARS!
Tacoma buyers are the most loyal in the industry. I have been holding onto my '02 waiting patiently for years.
I wonder if Toyota is adopting GM's method of offering a "meh" mid-size in hopes of pushing you into a more-profitable full-sized truck?
The Tacoma has been their best-selling truck for years but maybe they are going to try and change that and make the Tundra the focus of the company.

Honestly, Toyota probably has determined that MOST (not all, of course) Tacoma buyers are extremely loyal people who don't demand the most innovative truck. This won't be their first Tacoma, and they value reliability and off-road ability more than anything. And, Toyota has had a stronghold on the mid-size market for so long, there's not much incentive or need for them to create some "game-changer" like GM is trying to do. Hence why we see what looks to be the same cab, same bed, and (probably) the same frame. Wouldn't surprise me if the suspension was either the same or very similar to the outgoing model.

You're also right that profit margins are much higher on the full-size trucks than on the mid-size. It makes more sense for Toyota to put it's R&D money into that market and try and sway sales from the domestic owners, or upsell potential Tacoma buyers into the more more speciensive, spacious, tech-ier, and luxurious Tundra.

I think the grill resembles the 4runners grills more than the 12+ grills. Maybe...i'm still trying to decide.

The reduction of model variations of the Tundra pretty much shows me that Toyota is not pushing people toward the Tundra. They know their niche and are trying to make it profitable. They'd have been pushing efficient powertrains in the 2014+ Tundra if they wanted Tacoma buyers to switch (which is what Ford has done with the F150 and having no midsize on offer). Midsize buyers aren't going to all of a sudden be OK with a 17mpg Tundra because the Tacoma didn't get a fully new cab.

There is a diesel Tundra in the works to compete with the power/MPG of the EcoBoost, so I don't think Toyota is giving up on the Tundra at all. But we can agree to disagree. I think Toyota would much prefer to see the Tundra market share grow, and they are focusing their efforts on doing that.

Agreed, there is a lot of money to be made in the full size truck market, toyota wants the trundra to do as well in that segment as the tacoma does in the mid size segment.
