Just put new Cooper AT3's in 265/70/17 on my new TRD Sport. Don't really like the traction in the snow. Any suggestions???

Compacted snow/ ice traction will be worse the the ST MAXX than the AT3's. They have even less siping than AT3's. Deep snow they would likely have the upper hand though.

Some people seem to love the at3, some say deeper snow they aren't so good. I have them, I like them and haven't had any trouble. That said, I have ordered the st maxx because I like the look and will be putting the at3's on my SUV. If your tires are still new, sell them and try something else. I can't recommend the st maxx myself because I haven't tested them yet, but I've heard good things.

from what I have read the duratracks seems to be the best AT tire for snow. both deep and just a little on the road. they have a lot of siping. MT tires are not good in the snow as far as I know, maybe deep snow offroad but not on the street. that said I do belive in some parts of the country you can your tires to a shop and have them siped more, you may want to look into this, because those are great all around tires and you maybe can improve them and keep them. obvi other option is to get a set of dedicated snow tires and problem solved. there is no AT tire that will match what a true snow tire can do.

Get a snow/ice specific tire then, swap tire/wheels for warmer season back to your AT3.

I have no idea where you could get tires siped but if you live in an area where there is a lot of snow, there may be a shop near you. I live in CT and we can get quite a bit of snow, but there is nowhere I know of around here that offers that service and I have no clue what it may cost. decicated snows may be the way to go, plus if you get a set it will prolong life of your AT's, and most likely you can use them for many many years, until you get a new 2020 at least ;)

That's surprising, the traction was the only thing I actually liked about them. Otherwise, I did not like those tires at all. The ATR's that the AT3's replaced were much, much better.

At this time, I would say your only options are keep them and suck it up, or try to sell them off and get something better. I have Michelins on my truck now and they are awesome! I have the AT2 and can't say enough good things about them. Traction is great, they ride nice and seem to be wearing well.

AT2's are those General Grabbers? Every site I look at those on states there are not meant for severe snow.

Duratracs perform about as well as Cooper ST Maxx. In deep snow, both are better than passenger-car winter tires (Bridgestone Blizzak, Michelin X-Ice2, etc.). In compacted snow and ice, the passenger-car winter tires perform better due to better rubber compound.

BTW the siping on Duratracs extend only about halfway down the tread depth. Goodyear may have done this for strength reasons.
