I have installed hood struts on my 08 and this thing is in the way. I think I might have bent it a little when I closed the hood for the first time.

Anyway...does anyone know what this does of it for? It is on the driver side screwed onto the fender screw. The hood closes on top of it pressing the button down. The wire go from the button into the dash board somewhere behind the firewall. I have turned on the truck and pressed the button and see any warning lights on the dash going on or off.

Also...I am looking at moving it closer to the hood hinges so I can still get these hood struts working...can I do that with this part?

    Thnx

When your hood is popped/open, it triggers the alarm.

I had the same problem with mine. I removed it and lengthened the wire a bit, then installed it closer to the front of the truck. I put a few washers between the outer and inner fender surface to support it after I drilled a new hole.

    I think I bent mine...is your straight?

I tried to test it to make sure I didnt break it by pressing the button down...turning on the alarm...then releasing the button, but that didnt seem to do anything.

Does anyone know of another why I could test this to see if I broke it or not?
