What do you all think about the plan to make community college free for everyone?

I got too many thought to list.

It could be good or bad. It seems that the folks that can afford their kids to go to a University, will still pony up the money to send their kids to a high ranking school.

On the other hand, if that community college has affiliations with good trade schools, it could be great. The United States are in dire need of skilled trade workers. If we can talk kids into not believing that they have to have 4 yr degrees, we could be onto something. The word needs to get out that a highly trained skilled worker can make $100k/yr if they set their minds to it.

I just hope its not another political ploy. If both parties are in on this, I'm for it. I hate turning any thread towards being political, because I don't know shit about politics.

I like the idea for the most part, but I worry that there will lots of talk about what programs are "worth" having support for. There is a difference between training and education.

Personally I think it is just an indication of how our High Schools are failing.

...here's a novel thought... how about "free will" instead of "free stuff" for once...

...let's just keep giving "free stuff", and pretending that nobody else has to make the effort to provide for it...

A lot of places find the money for higher education. There are states and contries that invest in education. I don't think of it as free stuff so much as investing money in a different place looking for better returns on that investment

The White Houses cost estimate of $60,000,000,000 over 10yrs is far short of the mark IMHO. Nothing is free, check out the tax rate of some Socialist countries. $14T+- in debt, we can't afford it.
