Matt just posted that in the Northern Virginia Thread - thought i'd pass it along in case anyone is looking for some newish KM2's or a used Demello front bumper.

Well, I was considering cleaning up my current 2011 and trading it in for a new 2016 (or maybe wait for a 2017), reason being my Tacoma lived on the Gulf coast for 2 years and it has rusted a bit on both the frame and suspension, even my OME coilovers, leafs, and shocks got rusty in less than a year (with proper oiling and care).

But after seeing the new bumper and grill on the 2017 I want nothing to do with it... I don't see anyway to put an aftermarket bumper on the 2017, and even if they dropped a 40MPG diesel engine in there, I just couldn't bring myself to buy one considering the looks and possible modding challenges.

Which brings me to my point: this spring I want to completely refinish my frame, suspension, and undercarriage; so I want to get all the needed materials together now. I'm thinking about using a steel wheel on a SAG to bust off the rust, then put on a coat of anti-oxidizing paint, followed up by a top layer of spray paint (or possibly flexiseal). Anyone have any thoughts on this, I thought about going to my local Ziebart, but this could be an interesting project.

Once this is done I can finally reward myself with a Homer Grill, Relentless front bumper, and winch.

I want to put eastwood rust encapsulator on mine at somepoint.

Everyone will hate the 2016 3rdgen for the first year or two just like everyone did in 2005 and 2012. Don't feed into that crap. I like it. Its a promising facelift, i'm just hoping it has something better than the 4.0 in it

I really haven't bought into the hate, I'm just looking at it from a design perspective, if I had no interest in an aftermarket bumper and winch I would consider a third gen, but personally I don't like the looks as they are now, and I am more concerned with how aftermarket products will fit onto the front end.

Definitely hoping for a better engine though. I could always wait to see if they make bumper changes again in 2017, but I am getting impatient.

By 2017 there will be some bumpers out and we can all have a good idea of what the possibilities will be :)

eh... IMO the 2012 has the best looking front end, although i do like the rear bumper and tailgate on the new model.

and to me, go for marine paint on the frame, the stuff is built to live in contact with salt all the time, should hold up better than anything else

I just want them to hydro dip them or at least make a better effort

More importantly i want our entire nation to find something better than rock salt and salt brine mix.

I guess i just need to move out west where its too cold for the salt to work

It was slightly above freezing today so i squirted the salt off of both my 4runner's undercarriages. My tacoma hasn't been out of the garage since october so i don't have to worry about that one. Every fall I put my toyota trucks on the lift and slowly shoot oil inside the frames. Then i wipe down the frames, rockers, rear diff by hand with oil saturated rags. After washing them off today i let them sit and dry, then i wiped the frames with my finger and i still had a oily residue on and in the frames. The water beads off so i'm hoping that the oily coating protects the metal from the damaging salt. I also spray either WD40 or PB blaster on my suspension parts in the winter. I've had my black runner for about 4 years and so far no rust (except for some minor surface rust) so i guess the oil is helping with rust prevention.

Yea, thanks for the compliment. I bought them used shortly after i bought my 4runner. They were painted white, my buddy had them on his white fj. I had to paint'em and replace the rings. I've been trying to find a 5th for a spare with no luck.

Drinking some local brews with my dad tonight! Started with a Sweet Baby Jesus! from DuClaw, Tell Tale Heart IPA from Peabody Brewing Co. In Baltimore, then to the new Cross Bones Session IPA from Heavy Seas (also Baltimore), and finishing with an IPA from Monocacy Brewing in Frederick.
