Hey guys, this is my first tacoma and I love it. Went from a 2011 Tundra to a 2012 dodge powerwagon to this trd pro. Wanted to get the best of what was out there in the tacoma line and I like going with something that I don't have to modify or upgrade exstinsively from the get go. I will admit, I didn't do any research. Went to the dealership looking for something better on gas and honestly was looking for something in the lower $30's range!!! But once I layed eyes on the PRO, I was in love and had to have it. Anyway, after having the truck for a few months my thoughts on this suspension has me thinking about going a different route in this area. On the highway it feels very stiff and you know every bump. Offroad is a different story, it's like butter offroad and I love it. What are the other PRO owner's opinions? Oh, and lets not turn this thread into another one of those PRO bashing paid too much money blah blah jealousy posts please!

I don't really have any issues with the front suspension. Seems pretty compliant in everything but real slow both tires hitting a speed bump stuff. The rear, which is stock TRD OR springs is the normal "empty truck" kind of stiff. I'm getting a full Bed Rug set and a Snugtop Shell in about 2 weeks. I think the couple hundred pounds in the back will help. Also, the D rated tires are a bit more harsh than the P rated stuff that comes on other Tacos and may be the source of some of your harshness. I know there was a very noticeable difference (to me) when I switched from the LT BFG AT's on my Tundra to the P rated BFG Rugged Terrains. Also, I only have about 500 miles on my Pro so would assume the springs will settle in a bit over time. Congrats on the new Pro!

my pro is stiff also,, the 10 ply tires have alot to do with it,, im running about 36 psi in tires , that helps alittle,, the tires are stiff and heavy and i feel that in the wheel when hitting pot holes around here and rough roads,,it almost feels like there is play somewhere in the steering, but i think its just the heavy tires,, i have almost 4000 miles on mine, and i went from a 2014 trd offroad with 8000 miles on it..

its statements like that why the tacoma has some of the weakest sloppy crap stock springs around. If you wanted a car like ride, buy a car. The stock 3+1 leaf packs are SOFT, come back to me when you drive a 1ton truck.

That stated the D rated KO's will cause a harsher ride and make you feel the smaller road bumps much more.

I run 34-36 PSI and that makes a MASSIVE difference when bouncing around potholes in the city. I think they came aired up around 45 PSI from the dealer.

Soooo....did you have a rough morning? And yes, I've driven everything from a Subarau Brat to a Kenworth, so what's your problem? Regardless of the truck, they all are designed to carry some amount of weight and will be stiffer riding when empty than with a load. The person requesting the information wanted honest feedback, not your rant about your disapproval of Toyotas current offering in springs. Biggest problem with these forums is folks looking for reasons to dis on everyone else. Hope you had a better afternoon.

Unfortunately you paid the money to have an off road truck, which the way you are describing the buttery smooth ride off road and stuff ride on road, sounds like the truck is working the way it's supposed to.

Im just stating, you cant have your cake and eat it too. Either a properly sprung truck to handel load... or weakly sprung truck to ride like a car, which effects everything a truck is supposed to do.

Thanks for the feedback man, I'll be adding some wait and maybe drop the psi a tad and see how she rides then.

That's exactly what I keep saying to myself at the same time too. Just taking some getting used too coming from a 2500 powerwagon.

I'm sorry you guys are complaining about the stiff suspension but the TRD pro isn't made to run around in town and get groceries it's made to go 4 wheeling, the stiffer suspension so it rides better in the dirt not mall crawl.I understand you wanted the best but maybe you over compensated and you should have gotten less

Next question for us TRD PRO guys...what can we do to take our suspension to that next level but still maintain most of the pro suspension. like what can we add or do without ripping it all out to make it that much more sweeter? "yeah it's the pro, but I also added this and now it's just fucking killer"...that type of thing? UCA's? I'm at a lost here, suspension isn't my thing.

FYI.... the PRO has the same damn 3+1 leaf pack in the rear as the rest of the 6 lug tacomas made after october 2013... and same 3+1 leaf pack that the trd sport has had for some time.

The answer for that question.... see below

Hes right.... the pros suspension is little more than different shocks in the rear and different springs and shocks in the front.... absolutely nothing more is different.... its not like you bought a raptor with longer a arms etc.... the rest of the functionality of the performance of truck is the same as a base model tacoma. If you want better suspension, your looking at new leaf packs, proper coil overs n shocks. At least you have the skewp, a trac, and the cool grill......

Lightracing jounce shocks would be add the most capability to your stock system. They will not soften the ride on the street, but you can go much, much faster offroad. Icon also makes a bolt on kit for the rear, not sure if they have a front kit yet, but that would be another option.
