LOL! This might need to be renamed the "Welcome New Members, Now Buy A Light" thread! There's like a half dozen newbs that just threw their name in the hat. Awesome!!

Three tips on installing the tape so it sticks:
    1) Clean the surface until you're comfortable licking it. No, seriously. Use Brakleen (or acetone, or lacquer thinner). Alcohol doesn't do shit for cleaning it properly. If you see some faint hints of paint transferring to the rag, you're doing it right (just don't go through the paint!).
    2) Do it when it's warm. The warmer the better. If it's below 68*F, I doubt it would stick very well. The tape and the truck both need to be warm.
    3) Press hard and hold for a few seconds. The adhesive is pressure-sensitive, and also takes some time to cure. This means it's repositionable for a little bit, but after a few hours it should be more difficult to remove, and after 24 hours shouldn't come off.

Just to provide an example as to why I know these techniques work: The very first-ever, original one of these is installed in my truck, back before anyone thought of selling them (and back before I had worked out some of the finer design details y'all are now enjoying). I installed it in SoCal in spring, when the temps were something like 80*F. I used Brakleen very liberally, first by spraying it on a rag and wiping, then in a final pass by spraying it lightly directly on the hood, then letting it dry completely. Mine has been up there for almost three years, and with not even a hint of it coming off or peeling at the edges or ends. And it's been in Death Valley and in Mojave in July and August while climbing steep hills in 4LO -- so plenty of chance for the heat to melt it off. It's also seen its fair share of sub-freezing temps (also in DV and Mojave).

 What he said! It needs to be warm and the tape is pressure sensitive. You have to press and hold.

My LED strip let go :( I don't get it... I cleaned the ledge of my hood like 5 times before sticking the strip on, and I pressed it down for the recommended time

Possibly. I would recommend maybe using double sided automotive tape?

As my partner in crime stated above, a successful and lasting kit is completely achievable after the proper requirements are meant. That being said, not everyone knows this and somehow with over 200 kits sold the number of failed installations is only a single digit number. Not bad considering it started from a concept and had just 5 eager taco-owners to test them before I started producing kits. Through trial and error these kits have become better and better largely due to Shanes compulsive, precise craftsmanship). Each improvement has made them a little more bulletproof, but sometimes with more cost.
A.D. may soon be modifying the PRO and BASIC kit to feature LED strips paired with high strength 3M VHB double sided tape.
It is my goal to improve the kits with an adhesive double sided tape strong enough to be noob-friendly, and almost strong enough I could hang by the pigtail of the pro kit from the edge of Top Of The World at MOAB, UT. Jusssst about that strong...

PM on the way, if anyone has any trouble with their kits now or while im out please don't hesitate to send me a PM or call my number. If you've purchased a kit, you have my personal cell phone number that i've had since I was 16.

You won't be able to use zip ties to hold up the led strip. You can clean it as described above, or say screw the chances and buy high strength double sided tape from VatoZone or Home Depot. Let me know how it goes!

Woah woah woah! Noob friendly!? :angrygirl:

I cleaned with rubbing alcohol like 4 or 5 times before adhering it lol

I'll try the VHB tape if I can find some at VatoZone

    Well there ya go.
It's been stated *several* times that rubbing alcohol does nothing for cleaning. Brakleen is the absolute BEST cleaner, but acetone or lacquer thinner work well too. You want a faint hint of paint color on the rag to know you're doing it right. Alcohol can't do that.
The only thing alcohol is good for when installing this kit is to celebrate the fact that everyone now knows how dirty your engine bay is. :drunk:

Damn, so ya'll telling me I shouldn't have installed it in winter weather? Lol My kit isn't sticking after using denatured alcohol, it's like 30degrees midday here in Tulsa, it's too cold to install this in winter here, but I do love this kit tho! Once I get it installed right. I'll have to stop by HillbillyZone or Home Depo here in town and get some 3M tape.
