Just came home from a bud's house and it is snowing hard. I live east of Missoula so I bet it is also snowing in town. Be safe on your trip. Usually the Montana side is not maintained as well as the Idaho side.

Says the guy who hasn't built anything

He likes staring at your rear.

thanks, Lisa's idea pretty much,I had a rough idea of what to do and she knew exactly what she wanted and it came out pretty simple. It is slightly off on one leg if I remember right because we measured it on my truck and then realized it was slightly uneven.

Do yo still have the CAd file? I think I have the paper one

ok folks I have a question. I been playing on the tire calculator. I know that my truck had 225/75/15 tires. I put some new 245/75/16's on it now. When my speedo says I am doing 70 according to my tracking program on my phone I am really doing 65 or 66. On the tire calculator page it says it should be just the opposite. Any idea? I know a dumb question but just wondering

I forgot how bad of mpgs the truck gets when you're driving 75+ for an extended time. You guys have too fast a speed limit here

And they want to raise it to 80. That'll work out great. People cant pay attention as is!
I do 70 on the interstate tops. About a 2mpg difference between 70 and 75 for me.

Roads from spokane were great. A little wet at the top of the pass. But otherwise it was great. Hopefully they stay going home tomorrow.
I think I'm gonna do that tomorrow on the way home. 75 just sucks the gas

I find that if I keep the TACH under 3,000 rpm I seem to do better. Good roads this morning on the way into town. Drive safe

Your stock tire size must have been 265/70R16 or so. So your speedo was calibrated for a larger tire than you are running now. Or you are running lower than stock gears and that is throwing the speedo off, or someone has calibrated the speedo in some other way.

    Just a few ideas.

lots of things concern me: first is the passes and twisty roads. No way you can do 80 on most of the interstates safely. Second, a lot of folks already go 80 so raising the limit will be a green light for folks to go even faster. Third, animals. Good luck avoiding a deer at 80. Fourth, winter. lots more wrecks from people not slowing down for conditions. Fifth, what happens to roads like hwy 191? Are they leaving that at 60? People already drive like idiots, risking their lives as well as everyone else's, they don't need any more help.

Like I said, eastern Montana. Flat as can be and straight. I think in no way from Bozeman to Butte to anywhere on the lower western side of the state needs it.

I noticed in WY when it was 80, I still usually only did 80, which I did when it was till 75 (except for a few of the side highways).

As for the animals, shit your not gonna have any better chance dodging a deer at 80 compared to 75 or even 70.

Fourth, as much as I would like to say people would know enough to not go 80, or even 75 in the winter, but we all know they are dumb and this wont change much of anything.

I think they will only change the interstate to 80, not hwys but not entirely sure on that. That wasjust how it was in Wyoming.

I stuck it at 70 while in MT. Definitely got better fuel. Montana was beautiful as usually. Hopefully I'll be back soon

You ought to ride with my wife when a kid in a rice burner decides they can challenge her in the camaro. Scares the crap out of me LOL. She raced one all the way up a pass when we were going to Vegas a couple years ago. Never did see him again when she put the hammer down. Mitch, glad you made the trip ok

Lisa makes some excellent points. I lived in Germany from 2000 to 2011 and drove on the A95 Autobahn most work days between Garmisch-Partenkirchen and Munich. German Autobahns have unlimited speeds except were posted and were designed for high speed driving. I would like to add that the cars (which mostly German and Italian) capable of driving in excess of 80 mph have better suspensions and high speed summer and winter tires. The progressive steering in those cars were set up to be much tighter than American cars for more control.

This said, the German driving schools are much more comprehensive and difficult to obtain a driving licence. There are photo cameras for speeding, proximity and red lights for safety and revenue generation. If you were photographed or breaking breaking a "three point" driving law, you lost your licence for one month on the first offence, for example running a red light. There was no passing on the right on the Autobahn and if you blocked the left lane you would get a ticket. Also there is no more flashing the passing lights or making obscene gestures. All vehicles had to pass a rigid TUV technical and safety inspection every year.

There were less than half traffic fewer deaths than the U.S. per 100,000 inhabitants or vehicles. The EU is trying mandate maximum speed limits in Germany, but as you would suspect, the Germans are vigorously resisting.

What does everyone around here run for communications in your rigs? CB, 2m, ??? I have a yeasu 2m rig that I just got the mic cord fixed on and am going to mount it when it warms up but no CB at the moment. I think I might throw in a icom 706mkII on a tuner and yeasu atlas 120 antenna. Then I can cover the CB frequencies.
