It is $5k more than the Pentastar V6 Ram which is the most similar performance wise. (The V8 does 0-60 in 7.1 seconds, the diesel does it in a leisurely 9.5 seconds. Taco 5AT V6 is 7.9seconds by the same source.) But yea, it isn't a $10k up charge.

As the Tacoma shares many parts from the Corolla parts bin including the door handles, my bet is that at least three current Corolla colors with make it to the Tacoma....

But the Tacoma shares a paint booth with the Tundra. Tundra colors will mostly drive Tacoma colors. Taco and Corolla used to both be built at NUMMI. No longer the case.

Whatever motor they put in it I hope they focus on torque more than HP unlike the colorado. The truck needs torque.

I must have been mistaken, where could I have heard that from?
Woo!! So what is that? Lexus engine everyone keeps talking about?

I'll check where I got that from. 5k isn't worth it either imo.

I test drove a '15 Colorado yesterday for the first time. Even though I'm learning more towards Toyota I figured I'd at least give the other mid-size trucks a chance before I make a final decision in the coming months.

First thing I immediately noticed was the seat was more comfortable and I had more headroom. I felt the interior looked nicer (of course, we haven't seen the inside the '16 taco yet) but parts of it felt cheap while other parts didn't. I sat in the backseat and felt there was a bit more room back there. I've seen some reviews that say it drives more like a car and I noticed that a little bit, less of a truck feel the the 15 Tacoma I test drove a few weeks ago.

I don't know. I was more impressed then I thought I would be but nothing was so great that it wanted me to ditch Toyota or visa versa. Like others I'm concerned about GM's reliability, who knows if the new Colorado turns out to be a reliable truck or have issues down the road.

Waiting for more info on the 2016 Taco before I do anything.

Those were my thoughts exactly.....I test drove the Chevy as well and loved it personally. Rear had a good amount more leg room, the seats were hella comfortable, and I thought it handled great. Heres to hoping the Tacoma is a step up from the current version (which isnt bad, but the Colorado trumps it hard).

Why is no one commenting on the engine from MSN Autos? Don't believe? There's been such an uproar I thought surely TW would eat that up.

It seems everyone is hell bent on believing the motor, drivetrain, and frame are the exact same.

I don't think toyota is dumb enough to keep the same motor and drivetrain, but I'm willing to bet its the same frame based on the mule pictures, the same cab and the pics recently released. Less cost in r&d for toyota to keep the same, sorta like the tundra.

My guess is that it's the same frame with minor stiffening. They have said they want to allow a TRD OR to be offered with an regular bed. Hopefully it includes better corrosion resistance as well.

It seems like almost a given that they are going with a DI 3.5 as their V6. I would be surprised to see anything else. It's conservative, which is typical of Toyota.

If they do the turbo 4 cylinder as the high-mpg motor, that will be their headline focus. Since it is already being rolled out in their other vehicles, that also wouldn't be a big surprise.

I've been following the GM twins on ColoradoFans, and there have been some early manufacturing issues that GM may finally be getting past. There have been many returned to the dealer for HVAC routing problems, missing firewall insulation, and some figment issues. Those complaints were for trucks that came off the line through November; more recent acquisitions seem to be in better condition.

I found the Canyon to be a nice ride, and preferable to the 2014/2015 Tacomas I was looking at. Baaaaarely. The 2016 Tacoma looks like it might swing that pendulum back to Toyota, and GM will be playing catch-up again.

I would be really, really surprised if a turbo AR showed up in the Tacoma. We haven't seen a RWD version of it yet (only FWD with the NX200t). We are supposedly going to see a RWD version in the Lexus IS in the fall, though. I think they'll skew cheap on the 4cyl and carryover the 2.7L TR engine.

The frame looks a bit taller, as in thicker channel in the released pictures but it could just be an illusion. My guess is its the same but slightly reworked. As for the engine, I bet it will be the more powerful 1grfe from the 4runner. The only logical upgrade from there is the 1urfe from the Tundra. If it is in fact a 3.5L I'd think it will be the 2grfe. To me it seems like a step in the wrong direction unless it's geared properly, that said they are much more refined than a 1gr.

Okay, so what numbers does this engine put out? What can it do in the tacoma? Mpg? Or does it all depend on how they tune it?

IF, and this is a big IF because I don't know which 3.5 it may be, IF the motor is the 2GR-FSE it looks like it will be around 300hp and 280lb-ft. of torque. That's the numbers on Wikipedia.

But that's only a guess. We'll find out tomorrow.

Got it, IF. So IF those are the numbers, won't TW be happy? Those sound like good numbers to me. Curious about MPG.
