So I got my lift put on Friday. After leaving the shop I noticed the truck had a loud roar similar to mud tires(although I kept the same tires I had on before). You can hear it up to about 45 mph then it quiets out. Then when you go to stop it starts at about 45 mph all the way to dead stop. You can feel it in the gas and brake pedals. It almost feels like a warped rotor when stopping. However my brakes are brand new. I have tried swapping to 4H and it smooths out instantly. I've read on here that that means it's the front diff bearing. Can someone explain this to me? I'm not really mechanically inclined and it seems to me that if that were the case it would do it in 4H instead of 2H. It seems to be coming from under the cab instead of the front. Any suggestions? I'm calling the shop tomorrow to see if they will take a look at it.

Sounds like you need the ECGS bushing for your front diff

I've read as far as my eyes could stand in that thread. I just don't understand how it could be the differential bearing. As I stated above I feel like that would cause it to happen in 4wd only. But I don't know much about mechanical issues so I'm completely lost. It's aggravating though. After seeing the difference in 4H it makes me want to leave it in 4H lol

It's slop in the axle shaft.

When you put it in 4H, the shaft is "loaded" effectively removing the slop.

I don't know if that explanation helps you understand it or not, but regardless of whether or not you understand it your symptoms are identical to many others and are well documented as to their cause and remedy.

How long does it usually take to fix? Will it hurt if I drive it until I get my taxes back?

Depending on milage you can forgo putting a new seal in.... my truck had 9k on it and i didnt even bother with the seal, And i made my own removal tool. 60 bucks + shipping and some time for me, but i have no problem doing the work myself.

I work and go to school full time and I'm really not capable of much mechanical work other than oil changes and tune ups. I'd rather have a reliable shop do it. My lift was just put on Friday. It's got about 100 miles on it since it was put on.

Mine seems to be coming from under the cab.. I was thinking maybe axle shims or carrier bearing drop. It doesn't seem to be coming from the front end.. I don't know. Hopefully the shop can pinpoint the problem.

Even if you have any luck with warranty coverage, all they might do is replace the needle bearing with another needle bearing.

The aftermarket bushing was created to fix a design flaw.
I'd recommend just replacing it and moving on with your life.. ;)

what he said... dont even bother with the dealer on this, about the BEST outcome you could have is you buying the 60 dollar bushing and having them install it.... but that is few and far between.

Does the sound go away when you put it in 4hi.... if so, you need the ECGS bushing.

Yes the sound goes away when in 4H. If I was going to get a shop to do this could I just skip out on the removal tool and just buy the bushing? Assuming the shop would have tools to do it.

Did you have a shop do it or did you do it yourself?
