Ive never used a hole saw. Does it have a center drill/pilot hole/ guide thing? Just so the hole saw doesnt skip around and scratch up the bumper?

 

Yeah, they have a small drill bit in the center for a guide.

I didn't have a hole saw handy when I relocated mine, so I cut a circle freehand with a dremel. Turned out okay but waaay more work and not recommended

 

Cool man. Good to know. Looks easy enough. I change my own oil but thats about as much new vehicle knowledge as i know. Now, if ya give me an older engine with points, plugs, and a carburetor i can do some work.

Edit: not that drilling a hole in metal has anything to do with new car knowledge i guess.

 

Haha. This is a super quick and easy thing to do. No mechanical background or skills required

 

They are pretty rugged. They're definitely not like bike tire tubes. I Don't really worry about mine at all. Plus when not in use they got a lot of give to them

 

I first located where I wanted the socket to fit (a center point) and marked it on the bumper with a pen. Then I drilled a pilot hole with just a small drill bit - a bit smaller than the hole saw drill bit. Then I used the hole saw to make the hole.
The reason why I did that was to make it easier for the hole saw drill bit to go into the bumper (otherwise it may have wandered around and went off my center mark). A 2" hole saw makes the perfect size hole and is a very clean way to do it.
I also pre-drilled the holes for the self tappers. Just makes it easier to get the screws in. Yes, they are self tappers and drilling is not required but I wanted the socket to stay exactly where it was.

 

I have always anti seized my plugs too.

As far as i know k&n is the only one. Mobil is smooth with the standard oil filter wrench/cap. It's all good man I normally get OEM or a mobil 1 but was out of stock at the moment
