I have a 2002 bench seat tacoma and I want to swap the seats for two individual ones so I can mount a sub woofer in between them. I am not planning to get the center console. Is it easy to swap the seats and how hard is it to find the two seperate seats in a junkyard?

    thanks

if you want something that just bolts in then finding bucket seats is not easy, anybody who doesn't have them wants them so finding them is like looking for free money and they are just as easy to find. its a lot easier to get two passenger seats from the 60/40 bench seats because on those, the passenger seats are the single bucket seat.

many just buy random bucket seats from other cars and "rig" them to work

search the forums and you will get some ideas what to look for.

This was many years ago... Like 15...
I swapped my 60/40 out of my 96 extended cab....with a set of buckets out of a Reg Cab. They came from a junk yard and were hard to find.

They bolted right in.... The only problem was the bottom of the console didn't fit properly to the shape of the extended cab tunnel (hump). It was an easy fix by shimming things a bit.

I see what both of you are saying.... but one problem(I might have not been clear on this so sorry) it is not a 60/40 front bench..... it is a full bench seat that does not split... any advice there?

thanks and sorry if I was not clear

    no, we got that part.

you asked where to get seats and that is the best way to find the most easy to locate seats is to look for 60/40 seats and throw the 60 part away and you have a single bucket seat that bolts right in, otherwise many on these forums have taken seats from many brands you wouldn't think of and described how they made them fit. most times you can get at least 2 bolts in and drill holes or make brackets to hold the other two corners in place.

Tacoma bucket seats don't last 15 seconds at the salvage yard, that is just how much they are wanted by everyone but the 60/40 seats are often overlooked so these can be found

You may want to look into getting an old pair of Honda civic bucket seats. I put those in my 93 years ago. I got the idea from this toyota I found online. I'm actually thinking of doing it to my 98. Easy, Easy mod. I think I may have had to modify the passenger one, but i'm not sure its been years...You can make them work though, I think they look a lot better. Here's that link http://www.fourwheeler.com/project-vehicles/129-0208-1994-toyota-4x4-lt1-engine/ I want to say I took the seats out of a 1998 or 1999 civic, but it was one of the nicer ones that had that stupid V-tec sticker on the skirts.

3rd gen 4runner seats are a near perfect fit, you just have to transplant one of the feet from the original frame to the new chair frame. I did them both in under 2 hours.

96-02. Mine were sport seats with the side cusion out of a 99 sport. Ill try to find the pictures. I think they are on my computer at home.

Basically I found the seats for $35 a piece at a junk yard and when you line them up you will see what I am talking about, 3 legs line up perfect one is off doing its own thing (outside front if I am not mistaken). So I cut the outside front foot off the tacoma seat and bolted it on to the frame of the 4runner seats, you could (probably should) weld the foot on, but bolting it up worked for me.

I also took the console out of a double cab Tacoma and drilled my own holes.

Just did this in a single cab, got the seats for 30 bucks and they bolted right in after I drilled out one mounting slug. Super easy.

I just want to confirm if I ask salvage yards for 4runner sport or sr5 seats that they fold forward? I want/need seats that fold for rear access and most yards I need to go to are a good 4 hour ride away so I need to know what im asking for and not waste time and gas

also I see they have a 93 and two 95 4runners but those seats are not the same are they? in other words its unknown if these can fit as easily as the 96-02 seats?

I was using this one: http://www.pullapart.com/locations/

most others I see want $150-$200 for each seat

pull-a-part sells bucket seats for only $25 each but you have to go find it and take it out yourself.
