I've tried to adjust mirrors the way this diagram says to improve visibility. I didn't like it. I run my mirrors in the "traditional" setting because that makes it easier to see while backing. The "improved" setting is hard to back with.

I don't have blind spot issues because I always am moving faster than everyone else ( :D ) and I lean forward to maximize the mirror when I change lanes.

    Agree to disagree.

If you're checking your mirrors on a regular basis there should be no surprises, unless someone rolls up on you going much faster than your speed, you should be able to see who is around you as they come into your area.

as for backing up, I use my camera to make sure my kid, or his bike isn't directly against my tailgate, then use my mirrors and the camera in combination to back up. With a topper with a dirty back window due to the dirt/mud road I live on, turning around to the inside of the cab will give me less to look at than the mirrors, and turning around to the outside of the truck will only give me a look at the left side of the truck.

You keep your owl head, and I'll keep my mirrors, and either way I'll doubt we need to worry about smashing into each other :D

Go for figure 1 and figure 4.

Move your mirrors OUT. Most people keep them too far in. If you can see the side of your vehicle, they're adjusted too in. You should need to really lean to see the side of your car. It takes some time to adjust, but once you do it's great.

Incorrect. I'm always aware of my surroundings to include my mirrors. That doesn't mean when I'm ready to change lanes I assume I'm good to go. Never hurts to double & triple check. Safety is no accident.

Well shit, I can't find the picture, BUT basically, you take a piece of 2x4 against the part of the bed closest to rear window, buy a regular adjustable flag mount from home depot or such, put it on the wood for aligning. Then you take one of your plastic OEM tiedowns and put it in the front bed rail. Trim out the tiedown until your flag's pole can slide through it, align it and the mount to your liking and screw it down.

    I'm thinking something like this:

Standard Universal Flag Holder (Made in the USA) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00NG0JAGQ/ref=cm_sw_r_awd_Bz0Sub1TD2468

On flat steel hanging down from the bed rail like i did with my shovel/axe combo seen here:

    And here:

    With maybe this flag pole:

Toland Home Garden Retractable Black 6-Foot (72-Inch) Flag Pole 400110 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00BD6X20U/ref=cm_sw_r_awd_KM0Sub1V2X2EY
which i would have to cut down.....6ft is too long

Thanks for the idea though :)

Yeah, that's fine, just wanted to make sure you saw it. I never use mine. I took them out of the bed in fact so they didn't get stolen. I put the extra d-rings in the bed floor, which help a lot.
