Is the fj60 the 9.5? With chromo birfs and shit I think it'll be just fine.

Yeah it's the 9.5". The other option would be to sell the fj60 front and tacoma rear to fund a 60/14 bolt but I would still probably only run 39.5's. From what I have been told my 30 spline chromos in the 82 will work in the fj60 but I would have to get a new shaft on the long side or short side (I can't remember which). It already has arp knuckle and hub studs so I would just have to pickup some knuckleball gussets and diff armor

Yea the toy axle will be fine as long as you're not extremely rough on her. I wouldn't mess with a d60. Although that rear might not hold up to a 39 lol

allpro long travel, shackle flip with ome dakars, cruisin offroad bumpers and sliders, 4.88 gears with arb's front and rear, budbuilt skids.
Fj60's are 9.5 third with mini truck outers, I would be worried about the knuckles or trunnions shitting the bed on 39.5's

RCV's, fifth stud mod, and maybe a trunnion bearing eliminator or upgrade. Should never have to worry about a ring gear failure. The rear could be the coarse spline but I'm not sure if there is a strength difference between it and the later fine spline.

Boxrocket seems to think I'll have problems with steering? Anyone see a problem with running this axle, fj80 steering box, trail gear sas steering kit, and a psc pump?

There is no good hi steering arm solution on the fj80 axle unless you want to spend $800 on hellfire knuckles. The fj60 axle is a much better choice in that regard..Plus 9.5 R&P

Edit, unless you are linking it, then you can use the 80 series box. Leafs won't work though

No need for hi-steer since it will be using the FJ80 radius arms. It will also use an FJ80 or FJ60 box which are both forward swing. The FJ60 axle does have the 9.5 third but that is lo-pinion and massive. Plus the FJ60 uses standard mini truck size birfield's. The FJ80 birfield is much larger and has the hi-pinion 8 inch third.

Gear head: do you have a build thread on that thing? I am researching an FJ 60 front axle SAS now and i have some ideas floating around my head and need something to look at.

Redneck: i wheel with guys who have fj-40s and runners (3.4 swap and a heavy ass bastard) with longs and the housing bending is what they worry about more than breaking birfs. I drank the fj 80 koolaide at one time and have since been re programmed. I do like the behind the axle tie rod that the 80s have though.

Yeah, trying to stay away from leafs. We are doing radius arms with coil overs to ensure a nice ride on road. Not shooting for crazy flex yet, just a nice more reliable front end with some decent travel.

Size isn't to important, I'll only be running 35s, later 37s-38s. At which point I'll be throwing some rcv shafts in And trussing it. The axle will be plenty strong enough for what I'm doing with it.

So only "real" issue is the lack of hi steer options?

That and large amounts of $$$ flying out of your wallet because 80 parts are double the price of regular toy parts.

I was going to do the radius arm swap thing, but decided leafs it is because I'm too dumb and poor for links.... Well i want to spend money on stuff other than my truck.

It will be slightly more expensive but won't really have to buy that many fj80 parts, going arb locker in the front which is a grand no matter what your putting it in.
Rcv shafts are never cheap and aren't coming until I get 37s anyways.
    Rebuild kit from ecgs $144
    Regear is same as anything.
And me and Chris know of a good amount of stock fj80 parts are we can get for decently cheap.

    Sweet!

When i was building my rear axle i noticed the parts were alot more $$$, i was like WTF!!!

Paper hub gasket 5bucks a side, get out of there with that.

What are you going to do about the front hubs? I know the longs were not warrantied on fj80s because they were "full time" 4wd and always spinning.
