Advice on best tonneau cover for my taco?

Leaning towards the Bakflip F1 but not sure of there are any better one I should consider? Looking for a hard, folding type.

Also what's the deal with the drain tubes they come with? Are those things really necessary? If the top is closed, where is all this water coming from and why do I need them?! What am I missing?

Bakflip isn't bad, we have guys tow those trucks in the yard when they are rear ended with those and they go back to closed mode, really oodd, Drain tubes are necessary though

I have the access limited. I really like it, easy to install and can still use rails, and it doesnt cover the rear window like the others when rolledup. Its the value play when it comes to rollups.

I have had my Roll-X for almost two years and it's been great. It leaks very little but like any tonneau cover, if someone wants in, they'll get in (even with the tailgate lock). You only lose about six inches of space at the front of the bed when it is rolled up all the way and you have full visibility out of your rear window. That part was appealing to me. I also had a Bak Fibermax on my other Tacoma and liked it fairly well, but I would vote for the Roll-X over it. Good luck, there are a lot of great covers out there.

 

I have the pace edwards jackrabbit cover and i am pleased with it. It took a little time to install and even after i installed it, it would sometimes open up going down the road after i hit a bump. I fixed that problem by moving the rails in more. For the most part it is weather tight it leaks a little up front but all you have to do is stick a weather strip there and it won't leak there. So overall i am pleased with it, it is a little pricey though.

 

Boss has one of those on his short bed. It's the only rollup one I'd consider. The velcro ones are ridiculous IMO.

I have an Extang Trifecta. It was on the truck when I bought it. I like it a lot. For the rare occasion I need all 6 ft of the bed at full height, it comes off completely in less than a minute. But, it's a soft one.

 

You definitely need the drain tubes. I have the bakflip G2 and despite the fact the sides have weatherstrip and it is "sealed" on all edges, water will get in. The rails that run the length of the bed have a channel in them that collects water and runs it towards the cab, where the drain tubes catch it and dump it properly.

I have noticed that I get the most infiltration at the seam where the cover meets the tailgate - especially at the corners. There is no way to have that be a totally sealed area, and after a heavy rain there are water marks there in the bed. I had one time where the drain tube unknowingly popped of the nipple and I checked the next day and the bed was soaked in the upper corner from it. Use an adjustable pipe strap on the tube to keep it in place.

The Pace Edwards JackRabbit looks nice -- I will look into that one. Does it allow full access to the bed? It looked like it did.

I am not interested in the velcro/soft covers, I prefer a hard cover. Any other recommendations other than the Pace Edwards JackRabbit and a Backflip? Thanks!

 

The Undercover Flex is another option, and looks like it might be a little more solid than the Bakflip. Better warranty too.

 

While all these are nice, you want the G4 Elite Fold a Cover.

 

I loved my Bakflip but I sold it to buy my shell which I will never give up now... The quality on the Bakflip was great. There were two hooks that rusted on top in three years but that is my only complaint. Only once did I have water in the bed and it was very little was when I drove an hour in a hurricane. And YES you need those tubes to drain the water out of the track.

I'm looking for some advice on a used fold a cover. I found one on craigslist and am wondering what a good price to pay is. Also are there any common items that would need to be purchased as they would be unable to come off of the other truck? Any help would be great.

 

Most new are $800+. So it would all depend on the condition of the one on Craigslist.

 

After some research of these models, I really like either the Bakflip F1 or Undercover Flex. All I can find a comparison for is the Flex vs G2. Recommendations anyone?

 

i purchased a Bakflip G2 and installed it today. looks sweet, streamlined and flush, which is what i personally prefer. and have full access to my truck bed. waiting for it to rain to see how it holds up

I have a Fold a Cover G4. It is a four panel folding cover, still have use of rails, opens both front and back, Open does not block rear visibility, and is lockable.
