I'm currently looking to swap out the factory 254/75/R16s on my PreRunner for a set of either 265/70s or 265/75s. One of my concerns about going 265/75 is how that will impact the towing performance of the truck.

While I have yet to pull anything with it, I do have a 22' boat that weighs in around 5500 lbs fully loaded. I completely understand that going to the larger tire will result in overall decreased performance, but I want to be sure that the increase in tire diameter won't kill all of my acceleration when pulling such a load.

Has anyone move to this size tire and towed over 5000 lbs? If so, what were your impressions?

    Thanks.

Keep in mind that you are only looking at changing the width of the tire. There will be no speedo changes to worry about. However, you are almost an 1" if going from 245 to 265. Which will result in an increase in rotational mass. Do a search for the tire weights and see how much of a difference there is there. That's what may or may not be noticeable.

    a 265/75 is taller than a 245/75.

    ^this

265/70 is the same diameter as 245/75

^1" larger diameter and not that noticeable. might even get you slightly better mpg.

also do you have the 6cyl or 4cyl?

be interested in seeing your data that shows a 265/75 16 getting better gas mileage that a 245/75 16.

"might" and "slightly" are relative. 1" more diameter is further distance. over time. sure. also not every 265/75 is an LT that weighs 55lbs. get a highway tire, that will help too.

driving habits are the only way to reliably improve mpg. keep the tires aired up and the pedal off the floor.
