I just don't like snakes for anything other than smoothbores. For anything rifled I really prefer the old style copper or nylon brushes followed up with oiled patches until the barrel wipes clean. I just don't trust a snake to get into the grooves in the rifling.
Although, the GF got me a kit for x-mas that has round rubber squeegees that work great on anything with button rifling. Run a cleaning brush with solvent through, then an oiled squeegee of appropriate size. Wipe the squeegee and repeat until it comes out clean, then just run an oiled patch down the barrel and you're done. Saves me a few patches per gun, which is convenient, and if I'm cleaning more than one gun I can just reuse the oil patch on all of them.

Holy god about the stiff-ass bolt on the Mosins, though. I'm going to polish the bolt and where it rides on the receiver, I think, to see if I can smooth out the throw on that bugger. Not bad when you're working an empty bolt, but when you're chambering a round it makes the bolt on my Remington 700 feel light as a feather.

    That sucks.
I know Rattlewagon's in VT, but not sure what part of it off the top of my head.
And I think his is a dedicated Trail Rig; not sure if he can get it out there or not...

Never hurts to ask, though. I'll shoot him a PM

I'd hold off on polishing for now. Get about 10 rounds through it and see how it feels when it warms up. Also, have you completely disassembled the bolt to clean and lube it? It only takes a few minutes. They're not meant to run nice and smooth, they're meant to be slapped around a bit. It's one of it's many charms!

Can you tell me the name of that cleaning kit you have? That sounds interesting and I'm always up for new ways to clean my guns. My current kit isn't holding up well and I need to upgrade anyways. I just bought a cheap Field and Stream kit at first.

It was a towncar for me too, and we emailed to set up the car, then we emailed to confirm, and the driver must have overslept or something. Needless to say, he was 40 minutes late, and I am $10 richer. No tip.

Not only was he late, he was waiting outside the wrong house for 5 minutes. I got tired of waiting so I called him and he said he was outside. I look outside... no you aren't. "I'm outside the yellow house".. "Nope... still don't see you"

Oh well, all that matters is I'm off the ground on my way to LA, then connecting to PHX (yes, it sounds dumb, but it was the smartest connecting flight I could find)
I don't feel like leaving my truck in Boston for 8 days with a weak battery. Its extra money I don't want to spend. My cab this morning was $55 or something, which wasn't horrible (minus the tardiness) and I'm getting picked up by my grandmother when I come back. She was gonna take me today but didn't feel like getting up at 5AM, and I don't blame her whatsoever lol.
That's also a good idea! Luckily, we live just off of 93, so it isn't a huge hassle to get there (unless your asshole driver is late and you wind up stuck in rush hour like I did today :frusty: )

Time to watch netflix and zone out

I wonder if mp3 support is better on the 4400BH over the 4100DVD. My 4100 used to cut off the first 1/2 second of audio when playing mp3s.

Thats about 3 hours north of where my truck is, But you wont catch me on a VAST trail with my truck. Best bet is to call the local Snowmobile club in the are and have them come get it with the groomer. And get ready to pay fines out the a$$ for driving a wheeled vehicle on vast trails.

Hm. I only put 3 rounds through it yesterday before I bought it, just a quick test drive to make sure it fed/fired/ejected reliably. I'll take it out again this weekend and see how it does once it's warmed up, then.

I stripped it completely down when I got it home and cleaned/oiled it. Disassembled the stock and removed the barrel/receiver assembly and gave them both a thorough cleaning & oil job, cleaned and oiled the trigger assembly (looked like new in there-I was surprised) and then disassembled, cleaned, and oiled the bolt assembly.
The bolt ran a little smoother after I oiled it, but it's still a pretty starchy unit.

Man that sucks. I'm not anywhere near him. Is it only a ditch or is he frozen in as well?

Rattlewagon says that his truck's 3 hours south of there, and even if he wasn't he wouldn't want to take it in on a VAST trail. Evidently that's a sled trail and the fines are hefty. He recommended calling the sled club and having them pull JLink out with their groomer, but that unfortunately to expect to have to pay some $$$ in fines.

Heres a link for the VAST club page.

    http://www.vtvast.org/clubs

The Vermont jeep Assoc may also be able to help, as may of their members are farther north, but, may get the same response to being on the snowmobile trail.

    http://vtjeep.org/
Or... get another winch line and try to get your self out quietly.

$55 for a towncar isn't too horrible. I can't complain. I didn't tip him though. You can't show up 40 minutes late when someone is trying to catch a flight.

    Also, greetings from 88* 14' 48" W, 42* 45' 42" N
