Just ordered a Cobra 75wx st CB radio.

Looking for a little guidance on which coax to order.

The Firestick one with a ring mount. Keep in mind, it's been a long time since I've soldered and the connector has to be soldered on. Not exactly sure if my iron still works:

    http://www.amazon.com/FireStik-K-8R...086052&sr=1-2-catcorr&keywords=firestick+coax

    Or this fully assembled one:

    http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...rd_t=36701&pf_rd_p=1970559082&pf_rd_i=desktop

I'm also up for any other recommendations. I am looking for the best performance, keeping in mind the CB I just bought isn't going to win any performance battles. If it means anything, I have 45acp's 48" Firestick tunable antenna and a BAMF mount.

I used to have a a TRD supercharger on the Tacoma, converted back to NA when I bought the Tundra. The SC was tons of FUN!!!
Finally lost the clutch in my Taco late last year - had to have AAA tow me home. I glazed it several years ago and it was only a matter of time until it failed. Only have 115k miles on the old girl.

I bought an Excedy clutch kit and a new rear main seal a couple of months ago, but I've been busy with other shit till now. A friend was going to come by to help drop the tranny on Saturday, but we woke up to rain. Weatherman said 20% chance, but it rained all day and we got 1 3/4".

Hopefully we'll get to it next weekend ...

The fire ring one makes it easy at the antenna side, but soldering the radio connector is a PITA. I screwed it up and ended up just taking it to a cb shop

Young Brett said that radio sucks balls. (for real and yes I'm trying to instigate an e-fight between the two of you)

But for real, I'm not looking to do the ashtray mount on the CB and I like the idea of being able to remove the handheld unit when not in use.

    Any recommendations on the coax?

It doesn't line up perfectly, I can deal with a half inch gap for a $230 savings. I have a Uniden 505 pro. Wish I got the 520

Mine came with the fire ring end and the other end was just wire. I had to solder the wire inside the connector

You bought the Firestick coax? Every review says the PL-259 connector needs to be soldered on even though it shows it complete in the pictures.

I have the Cobra 75wx and have no problems with it, I went with the ring mount and there was no soldering required. I did reverse the male and female mic connectors for a more minimal disconnect when I take the mic off.

I'm choosing the 75wx for convenience.

I'll see if I ended wasting money and buying the fanboy 520xl in the future.

Did you follow that one guy's walkthrough who did it on his 2nd gen?

I'm looking to do this mod but got spooked reading his experience.

Is it a huge PITA or doable for a novice?

Did you all order it off Amazon or did you get it from another retailer?

Didn't see a walkthrough, just cut and solder. Pretty easy you just need to get a good set of phone cable strippers due to the super small gauge wire. Got it off Amazon.

My understanding is that it's open ended wire so you can fish it through smaller grommets, etc easier.

Buy the fire ring. Easier to fish without a connector on. I'll solder it.

And I never said the 520 sucks, but the cobra is superior. Not to mention the constant problems with stereo interference in the ash tray location.
