"Engines will come in two flavors, either the carryover 2.7-liter four-cylinder or a brand new 3.5-liter Atkinson-cycle V6 that utilizes both direct and port fuel injection. The four-pot only can only be had with a six-speed automatic transmission - one extra gear than before - with electronic shifting, the sixer can be specified with that or a six-speed manual. We haven't been given numbers yet, but Toyota says the new truck is "more powerful and fuel efficient," meaning we expect a raise on the 236 horsepower of the current 4.0-liter V6."

If you want better mileage get a Prius.
Thats a Hybrid engine, that as complex as possible and not build even remotely as tough as 1GR 4.0L we currently have.
So unless somebody is buyign Tacoma as minivan with bad, that is not best engine choice for application. Cheaper for Toyota to produce but not better for us.

All this off road jargon and Toyota will still be denying warranty work for using it as such.

I love my "new" 2014 but I think the 2016 looks awesome. It was the right choice to keep the same basic look and feel. The Tacoma's and Toyota pickups from the 80's to now have always looked great and sales have proven it. Wait until you see that Offroad version in Black or White or Grey. Are there photos of the TRD Sport?

Hopefully they changed the stock tires. Mine came off within one week of ownership.

Reading about the `16 here on TW I was convinced the engine would be straight from the 4Runner which would have been fine. But something tells me we are in for a very nice surprise with this 3.5L. :)

If I had the money, I'd buy a pre-owned and send the engine out to URD to be sleeved/stroked/maybe bored? and their supercharger. Cost somewhere around a new top of the line model with tons more power because racetruck.

Same here, shame for Toyota for listening to wannbes crying about fuel efficiency on the truck. its a truck, it supposed to last, take abuse but definitely its main purpose is not to save on gas.

3.5L V6? Wow, and I thought I was towing at high rpms with the 4.0L. The 4 cylinder diesels will outperform this glorified Camry motor with ease.

I love the long lasting durability bullshit. How many of our Tacoma's are sitting in the back of Stealerships waiting for new frames? Why do we have to come on here to get real wheel bearings?

I'm not so sure about that. The new transmission will be key to fuel efficiency, acceleration and towing.

Now you goign to be waiting for an engine produced for Hybrids in addition to the above.
That engine sucks balls .... its like Toyota is trying to kill Tacoma on purpose. Putting worst engine in Toyota fleet into their best selling truck . Makes sense, NOT.
