This would make sense to me as I can't see them running 3 engine options or running a 4cyl option and a hybrid v6 option. I think a new 2GR variant non hybrid.

I moded 1999 Taco so much it had turned to Land Cruiser
If thats true that is good. Toyota phase out locker on Tundra and at the same time said they will phase out elocker on other vehicles citing new traction control makes it not needed. Guy during press conference have not mentioned so I assumed its gone now.

I hear ya and agree with all of what you said. It's just that I thought I heard towing capacity would go up (~7000 lbs?!?) and the new engine will most certainly have increased torque, HP and be more fuel efficient than the current 4.0L. We are talking about an engine that's 10-12 years newer with direct injection and surely a much better transmission.

My 4Runner has the 4.7L V8 with AWD and it tows our 3700 lb dry/4600 lb loaded trailer better than I expected. Yes, it guzzles the fuel in the mountains but it's a pretty good tow vehicle for a mid-size SUV. My biggest complaint is actually the lack of towing/extendable mirrors and mine doesn't have the backup camera for connecting the hitch. I'm very curious to test my `14 Tacoma's ability to tow the same trailer and feel I may need to somehow save up for the TRD supercharger to get similar performance. I could be dreaming but I've been expecting the 2016 V6 to provide similar towing ability to my 4Runner and the 2nd-gen supercharged Taco without the need for premium fuel or additional maintenance.

Ah, thanks for the context on the Tundra and comments about phasing out elockers. Appears based on the press release that the Tacoma elocker escaped the ax this time around at least.

    Prepare yourselves for crickets...

TL DR - The FR-S/BRZ uses this same engine technology of direct/port-injection. The high pressure fuel pump needed for this setup produces a chirping sound that sounds like crickets when at idle. There have been TSBs and a couple fuel pump revisions attempting to fix this noise with no improvement. Since it's a Toyota pump it will presumably be the same one or similarly designed that is used in the new Tacoma.

I've learned to ignore it, many find it unbearable and reason enough to get rid of the car.

I bet you are correct. I was hoping for more torque in order to use it as a tow vehicle. Sure would be nice to have a midsize that didn't bog down so bad on hills when towing.

I'd buy a GoPro and run it in all the time in regular traffic, just like the Russians. With all the times I've been hit in the past, I want to prove to USAA that it was someone else's fault!

    "He ran the red light!"

"He didn't stop at the stop sign!"

"She cut me off and slammed on her brakes!"

    A GoPro makes outstanding evidence.
