Isn't it illegal to transmit over 4 watts?

And the loose wire does make it easier to fish the wire through things

Guys, The maximum legal CB power output level in the U.S. is 4 watts, just saying

    I got a Wilson 18' cable.

Most cables are 18' and should stay that length due to the wave length and such of CBs.

the Wilson is a nice cable as its heavily insulated and one end is almost totally rubber sealed for weather on the antenna side.

Im curious as to why you think this. Every Cobra radio i have wheeled with, as in someone else has it in the group, is always much lower and harder to understand people then the people with the 520.

I get the convenience factor of it though if you dont want to hard wire anything.

And if you properly ground the CB straight to the battery and the power too, you will never pick up interference.

    Yes,

but that doesn't mean some radios are better then others. MUCH more then just power output.

    oh yea, i missed that..

Truckers add in line amps all the time too. It is very illegal and if the FCC catches you they will fine the shit out of you. But they don't monitor CB stuff a lot.

Just an FYI on the Firestick coax. I know you said you didn't solder anything but it seems like Firestick recommends you do.

Simple fact is, dude advertises that he boosts CB's.... it's not something done under the table... hell he even gave me an itemized receipt. I understand your point... however it's his risk and his business, one walk into his shop and you'd see all the "evidence" you'd need... so I'm thinking there might be something that makes it legal..

For now I need "good enough" when on trails. If I feel as though I need to upgrade I'll be sure to get something that Snowman would endorse.

    From the FCC:

    Rule 25 Modifications to Transmitters
{A} You must not make or have any one else make any internal modification to your CB transmitter.
{B} Internal modification does NOT include:
[1] Repair, or servicing of a CB station transmitter; or
[2] Changing plug-in modules which were type-accepted as part of your CB transmitter
{C} You must not operate a CB transmitter which has been modified by anyone in any way, including modification to operate on unauthorized frequencies or with illegal power.

    This.
Nothing illegal about modifying. It's using a modified radio outside approved channels/bands that's illegal.

Interesting if the proprietor uses the exact wording in quotes as it is ambiguous. Does this mean the physical transmitter max or the legal max?

Going from a Cobra 19 DX IV to a Uniden 520 PRO XL, much prefer the Uniden. Voices are clearer and conversations are more intelligible. Both of them were powered off of a Blue Sea fuze box and grounded on the center lower console support bracket. No radio interference that I've heard.

I like how the uniden sits in the ashtray slot more than the cobra as well.

You should just look into getting a ham, that way you can be driving around earning retirement points monitoring the MARS network.

No quotes... but if the legal max is 4 watts then it's transmitter max cause they're all 18watts or so...

    Pm incoming
