Atkinson can run normally without being a hybrid. Any of the motors in the Toyota hybrids can be run in a non-hybrid car. They're simply tuned to be efficient rather than powerful.

I think they're leaning toward getting as much mileage out of the truck as possible when it's not under load. Should be interesting to see the test stats when they're done. Probably not until April/May, the way my dealer was talking.

People with more knowledge on the modern Atkinson cycle motors, are the reliable or better then the current simplistic 4.0L. I know it will have more power but Id take durablity/reliablity over numbers

I wouldnt expect a huge MPG increase. Listen to the engineer discussion at 20:33. Didnt exactly oversell it.

Pretty much. Its still an Otto cycle engine, but the variable valve timing mimics an Atkinson cycle engine. Personally, I still consider it an Otto cycle, as the Atkinson cycle has linkages that vary the length of the stroke. Its completely different. Simply using the valve geometry to mimic one, doesn't make it an actual "Atkinson" cycle engine.

Its still an Otto cycle engine, just uses the valve timing to mimic an Atkinson cycle engine. Reliability should be fine.

Looking at that wheelbase it was a DBSB. What makes you think long bed?

I'm curious to see what the sport looks like and what that will have. I hope it comes with leather and climate control options. I'm sure if you want the whole package you'll need the limited just like every other model Toyota sells. Curious to see if they have smoked headlights on the sport model. Also I won't discount Toyota from throwing in a diesel a few years down the road and changing to the 2.0 turbo 4 cylinder. Wait and see I guess

I am cool with that, but I need DCSB with a manual. Hope that's available as well, otherwise I am SOL and need to scramble and buy the outgoing model.

I'm not noticing any cab/bed twerking even on some of the larger bumps. Frame seems to be significantly reinforced!

    Nothing yet, brand new!
Sounds like no D4D is going into the 2016. :(
Call me 10 years from now for the next redesign.

Nah. Torsen or Suretrac LSDs do not wear out! Clutch based LSDs do.

Viscous-Coupling do not wear our, either, but they are poor anyway.

I'm guessing Mitsubishi sold off all of their leftover taillights from the hideous Raider to Toyota. :D

Anyone notice the hood pop open at the 10:00 min mark in the video?
