Exactly, it seems like the want a T-Top roadster with full independent suspension with a Warn winch up front or something. Compared to the Tundra that was redesigned I believe Toyota did more to the Tacoma then the Tundra by a long shot.

I think we can stop arguing about whether its new or not. This is what we got for at least the next 5 years probably.

The Tundra was a refresh, no question, and an ugly one to boot. Do they even try to call that a new generation?

No same generation. Kinda like the 12+ Tacoma refresh. I misspoken when I said redesign.

Why? Is that the only way Canucks can keep their cojones warm?

An off-road package on the DCLB would be nice too.

Agreed. What I want is a Tacoma that is effectively competitive with the Canyon SLT on option quality. The Tacoma beats it for longevity, reliability, and initial quality. It doesn't have a built-in wifi hotspot, but my iPhone already does and I don't have to pay an extra $10/mo. Zero added benefit there, GM.

Soft open, locking tailgate? Awesome. Tri-fold tonneau cover? Hell, I may still just get a BakFlip. You rearranged the seats to give better rear legroom? Golden.

I can also pretty much guarantee that the first 3000 2016 Tacomas that roll off the line in San Antonio will have their firewall insulation, and their HVAC vents will be routed to the proper zones. Just sayin'.

toyota being the only one that has done this so far that i can think of. a 10 year cycle always mean a new from-the-ground-up vehicle. But here, toyota used the gen2 chassis/cab and used that as a starting point (form the obvious looks of it so far)...which makes it the same engineered truck from 2005 no matter how you slice it. The front clip redesign is nice, more modern..its also huge and seems to make the truck longer because of it. I bet the dimensions are actually a bit longer just because of the front facia....so dont everyone go screaming "you see! new truck! its longer!" when you see that number.

the interior im sure also got a huge overhaul. I dont suspect it will look much different layout wise though. I do hope they used better materials and it doesnt look as cheapo as my 2012 did, that drove me crazy about that truck, they really didnt try that hard. If they redesign the door panels alone! that will be a huge step forward. the sad thing is that theres no hope for more legroom for rear seats on the 4 door cab. The GM is nice a roomy back there, which to me translated to more room for my fridge and dog when going out on trips.

at this point it comes down to the diesel offering for me between the Colorado and the Tacoma. it was going to be the tacoma for sure if it was a new truck, not such a clear decision anymore.

If the access cab 2.7L 4x4 rakes in a dismal 20mpg highway, what would we wager a transmission with an extra gear and a new rear diff ratio would contribute? 3-4 mpg?

Surely the v6 isn't going to do better than the 2.7L with fuel - that wouldn't make sense. Yeah, it'd push people to a more expensive truck with the 6 cyl but why would Toyota have bothered putting any time/money in to the 4cyl at that point.

They should be well aware of the fact that the market has been gravitating towards full size trucks partially due to the narrow gap in fuel economy between the two. It'd be stupid of them to have not successfully widened that gap but I just don't see how it's possible with all I've said. It's crude theory, hopefully I'm wrong.

The Ford Super Duty has had the same bones since '98, so Toyota is not the only one to do so. You're right in that the Colorado has roomier backseat (since its now confirmed Tacoma's dimensions are the same). I think Toyota will have a Diesel option if it's a big hit for the GM twins.

They did state in their Q&A that their main priority was to please the tacoma enthusiast. Another words for people that aren't leaving to go to a full size truck and use the tacoma for whats its good for.

It was always my understanding that the haven't offered this option due to the longer wheelbase really not being that good off road. I may have my info wrong though.

if you actually watched the press release or the ask the engineer interview then you would know it is a gen 3. There is not much they didn't change.

I get that, but the Tundra TRD is longer than DCLB. I could get a DCLB and add off-road tires and a lift, but would have no manual transmission or locker. =(
