Where did they say it's the 2GR FXE? And that the torque numbers would be lower than the current 4.0? Seems like you're just making facts up and shitting in this thread for no damn reason.

Not true, they actually moved the air box and people on TW can finally say it's a CAI from the factory and it would be true

    Mechanical fan I still see.

The 4.0 was originally a Lexus motor. It would make sense to use something already in production with a new tune. I bet it's the 2GR-FSE.

The oil filter on my 3.5 RAV4 is on the bottom, pass. side but real easy to get to. If it is in the same place it will be an easy oil change.

I moded 1999 Taco so much it had turned to Land Cruiser
    Unlikely.
    To me
I liked 2.7 L in first gen but wanted to get more power. So 4.0L made sense. I did not like slo 3.0 Toyota had in 1gen. Too many things to complain about but Timing belt is right at the top.
4.0 V6 in Tacoma came from Land Cruiser
    3.5 V6 that's coming in 2016 comes from Hybrid Highlander (3.5 L V6 with Atkinson cycle aka 2GR-FXE)
That and 2GR-FSE are two worst engines in Toyota lineup. In fact so many those engines had already died that I think people were considering class action.

Atkinson Cycle ? That's whats in my Prius. It's designed for fuel efficiency. Top RPM is like 4000. Mated to the hybrid system it has plenty of power but when I hammer the engine it is NOISY. it sounds like it wants to fly apart.

I'm curious to see the numbers on this engine.

i love my archaic, unrefined, fuel guzzling 4 liter. i'm sure whatever they put in the new one will be great. toyota may not be the most exciting car company, but they usually make good decisions - especially with breadwinners, like the tacoma

Atkinson cycle for cruising speed, Otto cycle for low end.

Wait....what? The 4.0 V6 in Tacoma came from Landcruiser? The Landcruiser had a 4.0L and then a 4.5L straight 6.

Should put a freight train on the Frontier :D I can see the hp range of 360-375 and 360-385 ft-lbs with this motor boosted.

The 2GR-FXE 3.5 Liter, D-4S, Atkinson cycle engine in the Lexus GS450h makes:

    286 hp @ 6,000 rpm
    254 lb-ft @ 4,600rpm

Unfortunately the press release and interview with Mike Sweers states that the engine runs on the Atkinson cycle. Not the atkinson AND otto cycle (VVT-iW) which would provide the best of both worlds (power and efficiency).

If you carefully read the press release it just states more powerful. It doesn't state more horsepower and torque. More horsepower is more powerful. Perhaps the torque numbers will be lower than the current 4.0, and they will make up for it with one the 6 speed auto and new differential gearing.
