I am hoping cost increases are minimized due to the fact there are so many carry-over elements from the gen 2...but I doubt it...

I like it, also seems to be the same motor in the rc350 which puts out 306hp, not bad imo, a lot better than current gen haha

It's because the frame isn't strong enough.

Canyon/Colorado can offer it because they have a fully boxed frame based on the frame of a full sized truck.

Still doesn't explain the lack of a manual.

Ya no way toyota will cut into their profit margins and there's a lot of little extras that will cost that they will pass on to the consumer. And they will sell every one of them. lol.

"Lexus RC350, though it will certainly be tuned and re-calibrated to fit the Tacoma. Sweers even noting during the chat that this calibration work hasn’t been completed, which is part of the reason no performance or fuel economy numbers were given. Toyota is confident, however, that this motor will offer greater power and efficiency over the current Tacoma."

So, they are still working on the engine lol. That's why we don't have specs.

My guess is they have possible window of power they can tune the motor to. Depending on what the next Nissan Frontier offers, they can tune it to match or exceed what the new Frontier will get, right before production. We may not know power specs for some time. Same with MPG.

The front end is the only thing that will really have to grow on me so far. I'm impressed by everything else.

Sooo...how about that consumerism? I leased (5 years) a 2014 in August and am already wondering what an "early trade in" scenario would look like on one of these in a couple years. Anyone done something similar in the past?

I don't care much about the HP, it's the torque that matters. HP is basically torque x RPM. If the engine develops 300 HP at 6000 RPM, that means the torque is still down below 300 ft-lbs. I was hoping this would be a midsize that could tow.

If your willing to pay they will play. I made the mistake of trading my 2011 on a new GMC Sierra, hated it, traded it in in 3 months for my 2015. I definitely took a $2.5k hit on that.

I have a 3500 pound Casita trailer. I'd like to be able to throw three extra people in the cab, say 100 lbs of personal gear per person (bikes etc) and random suppplies, and be able to pull it without too much sag and with adequate power. I live in the Rockies so I have to tow it to areas 10,000 ft + also.
Hoping this next Tacoma can handle that. If not, guess I gotta go full size.

Can't trade in a lease without incurring major penalties. I hope you meant that you financed the truck over 5 years. At least then you'll only experience the tip of the rape organ that will penetrate your anus when you try to trade up for a newer Tacoma.

No it's a lease, so I guess the entirety of the organ. I orginally leased with the knowledge that a redesign was coming and that I may want to step right in to one when the lease was up, but I sort of got over-focused on the monthly payment, did a 5 year instead of 4 like I originally wanted, and now here I sit.

I love the 14 for sure, but I would definitely eye one of these down in a 2 or 3 years. I figured that Toyota sometimes offers some sort of early lease incentives in certain situations to partially mitigate some of those penalties. If not, I can wait I suppose (as if...).

Rarely will you find it easy to squeak out of a lease without making up the money Toyota is losing out of the deal. This is why long term leases are a really bad idea. You lose almost all of your flexibility to trade up or down. Plus you are now paying 5 years to rent a truck you aren't thrilled about for 4 of those years....

Lessons in life can be hard. PM me if you get out of your lease. I'd like to know the buyout number. I bet it's enormous.

Now I saw it. Very nice interior, they really did do A nice job, but it is built around same dimensions and general layout. They changed the top center display to be more modern and they spruced up the center console. At least it doesn't feel like a new truck when you're in it.

Some of that is acceptable but can you really say it's worse than the Colorado? I think it shits the Colorado interior out after breakfast, and that's not the fanboy in me talking. I was under the impression the Colorado would beat the Tacoma as far as interior design and comfort, but when I looked at it... It just looks goofy. Specifically the gauge cluster and infotainment + vents. The shifter looks like a 90s mustang.
    Looks pretty new to me.

    Jezzas...

By looking at the pictures... The fact that every panel and seats and dashboard look radically different than My '12 yes.... I would easily assume that sitting in it would feel like you're in a new truck, it's an easy jump to make mentally without actually sitting in it... Most people can out those bits together when they read something like that.
The outside doesn't do that for me, I'm clearly looking at the same truck with a heavily redesigned front end but I can't stop seeing my 2012 in it no matter what angle I look at.

Did you mistype earlier? You said it wouldn't feel new. As for the exterior it was already pretty damn good. When something is nearly as good as it gets, there simply isn't much you can do to it. Like I said earlier, I think some people expected a spaceship.
