i dont think it has to do with it being true cold air vs. ram air, i think it has to do with emissions... there will either be 50 state legal or not

brute force isnt a true cold air, only true Cold air i know off is URD which most likely isnt CARB exempt

They can be considered TCAI... but no dealer can prove that the amount of colder or cooler air they provide could void your warranty:cool: And if you are worried aboutz state inspect; do a quick reinstall and all is good. No further ???'s lets move on to bigger and better stuffesses...:D

Usually they'll have a CARB 50 state legal statement.

Every intake on a modern vehicle uses a "True aold air" Intake system. All that means is the air is gotten from a location other than under the hood. I.e., fender, wheel well, front of vehicle, above raiator, below, etc. Many "True cold air" intakes are anything BUT. As they pull air from the engine bay. They may use a baffle, or whatever, and tell you it magically guides the air from outside the vehicle to the intake, buts thats BS. Unless they pull air from someplace other than the engine bay, they are NOT a "Cold air" intake. On the Second gens, some may not be legal in your state, as they omit the charcoal filter upon installation.

yeah panda, i bought a 63 K&N and its not cali legal but its not like you will get pulled over for it, the only TCAI i know of is URD and most others pull air from the engine bay so its not TRUE cold air intake but i didn't go with URD cause i didn't want to take the chance of water soaking my airfilter while its up front but its all up to you

ps you me and derek need to meet up i've been down here for a few weeks now

You bring up a very good point! I know for sure I don't want a filter outside of the engine bay, or any place where you could get water and mud on it. For the small amount of power gain if not any vs inside, it is just not worth it I think, especially for the high amount of us that go off-road.

I remember a kid in high school who had the air filter location in his wheel well, on one of those gay 4 cylinder rear wing/front drive "race cars". I remember that it always seemed to have mud and dirt and other crap on it that you don't want on an air filter.
I think it may be worth it at the race track, but not for a daily driver.

There are a few that pull the intake air from the fender, so they are a cold air intake.....TRD.....AFE, etc.

no yeah i agree, mine pulls from the fender but URD makes such a big deal about how there's is THE TRUE cold air intake an all others are not which may be true in some aspects but its more to just market their CAI as superior than others which that might be for on road purposes but not a good idea for off road....my engine bay is still dirty from mudding...and i've tried cleaning it more than once haha

My TRD CAI said in the instructions and on the box "for offroad use only". I am pretty sure it is still legal on pavement.
