It's less Tacoma and more mod
No need to fear, when the gen two was released the gen one owners feared for their trucks resale. But the Tacoma no matter what gen or year commands a resale price that is absurdly high because whether it is old, new, beaten to shit, smells like foot n' ass, or just plain high miled.... it is still reliable and people think fondly of it.

Toyota trucks seem to run pretty deep, they were reliable since their original import to the USA and are still. People remember their old Yotas fondly and buy the new or used ones because they want to either relive those days or keep living them.

Also, why are you worried about resale, run the bitch into the ground and get all of your money out of it. :p

Number one in a category of two vehicles. With the exception of the Frontier the other trucks can barely be in the same class as the Tacoma.

The announcement was just buzzwords. Rarely is a new vehicle announced that doesn't have a new frame, new suspension, and new engine.

They could've done something revolutionary but they pussied out. A 4 cyl turbo gasser, or 4 cyl turbo diesel standard would've been revolutionary. Hell I'd even take a torquey electric motor with a gas or diesel generator.

Give us electronically adjustable suspension on the fly for rebound and hi/lo speed compression dampening, and/or stock airbag systems for ride leveling.

Toyota just showed us how important they think the Tacoma is to them.

Yeah - it astonishes me. Toyota sells more Tacomas every year than the combined total of Mustang and Camaro sales. It's one of their most loved models. And they don't seem willing to spend anything on it.

I don't know if anyone else has noticed it yet or not, but looking at the high res photo's Motortrend took today at the show of both the TRD OR and the Limited, both still look like they only offer manual seats.

2016 Tacoma... no power seat option.

    not even once.

I like the new Tacoma. The whole package. There are still are a few details to come out (HP/Torque, MPG, Price, etc.)... but so far, really like everything about it.

I have time, not buying until the end of the year... still time for the magazines to compare back to back with a GMC Canyon. I would like to see that comparison/test.

I will be trading my 12 for a 17 when released. Let the bugs get worked out plus mine will be paid off. Best looking tacoma so far.

Agreed. They will have to price it fairly to make the launch work.

I use my phone as a GPS in a cup holder mount. I guess if we want a wireless charging mat, we can no longer use our phones as a GPS? Makes the mat useless to me.

The amount of people complaining about a lack of power seats is just hilarious to me. Do you have any idea how much weight that stuff adds and how hard is it exactly to expend the energy to manually flick a little lever to adjust your seat ?

I'll jump on this thread and state that I don't think this is a new generation. Everything that is "new" or improved on this model is what should have already been done in the first, or second, refresh of the 2nd generation. The differences in this "new" can be broken down into 3 distinct groups here. 1) sheet metal 2) Dash upgrade/Electronics and 3) Engine/Tranny. The frame and suspension "upgrades I would consider negligible because they're talking out of their bums when they say they've improved them. Hell, my wife's Outback (a '13) had a new engine, stiffer frame, and a sheet metal upgrade. It was considered a refresh and not an "all-new" model.

To address what I consider the 3 distinct groups. 1) the sheet metal on this generation has already seen 2 refreshes. Keeping the cab the same with a new nose and rear is hardly all new. Go look at Rangers in the 90's to 2000's. Toyota is giving us the same treatment. 2) Some creature comforts here. But as I crawled into my '08 this morning with a non-working overhead compass/temp gauge (that I fixed once), and a dashboard full of LED lights that aren't working, I don't have faith that all of the gizmos will work in the long term. Or, that most people will use them or know how to use them. 3) Not lot know about the new engine and tranny. But they should have been put into the truck back in '09. Not 2015. Toyota is playing catch-up with parts while putting their R&D into other cars.

So, count me in the disappointed crowd. After 10 years they should have been able to do so much better than this. Any inkling that I had that a Taco would be my next car again is out the window for me. But my '08 is mechanically sound with 115,000 miles on it. I've got some time to look around.

They have been gouging customers for years. A huge percentage of the cost of a new vehicle now is the platform. By maintaining the same platform for a decade and selling at a premium price, the Tacoma is a complete cash cow for Toyota, likely netting them around $10K in profit on each one (that's 1-2 billion dollars per year, if you look at the sales).

And it will continue unless customers and the automotive press demand something different.

I'll admit that I was hoping for power memory seats. Why? My wife is 5' and I'm 6'2". That's a lot of adjustment every time one of us needs to drive the other's car. I wish companies could at least do memory side mirrors. The are electronic anyway, so it wouldn't be that frickin hard.

It's not a deal killer for me, but it would have been worth the 50 lbs to me.
