Trying to lower the amount of wind and road noise

I am trying to figure out how to make the ride quieter. Anything over 60mph is really loud, other 1st gen tacomas / 3rd gen 4runners are much quieter. 80% of the "loudness" is from wind noise.

Tire noise is actually minimal, drowned out by the wind noise.

I have an SR5 without power windows or door locks, so I have the cardboard door panels. I am wondering if that is a large contributor.

I also have 01 mirrors on a 00. Does anyone know if the doors are different on an 00 from an 01? It sounds like a lot of the noise is off of the mirrors.

Has anyone replaced weather stripping in the door, did that help any with road / wind noise?

    Thoughts?

Probably your best bet, especially if the seals are visibly deteriorating. I haven't done them on my truck yet but I replaced them on a '67 bug and it was night and day. The mirrors on my '01 don't seem to produce any significant amount of wind noise

Put sound deadening material in the door panels and back wall.

Weather stripping on the windows for sure. I put the plastic deflectors on my first gen and they were great. The kind that go over the door and protect the top of the window from road noise.

I had driver-side door wind noise as well, at first, and it drove me nuts. Then noticed that the door had been 'tweeked' some time in the past. The upper part was bent slightly outward, and wasn't making a proper seal. I un-tweeked it a bit, and now it makes a proper seal, and is quiet. However, it is now a bit 'sticky' when I open it.

The door is still a work-in-progress to make it work as well as the passenger door.

    Hope this helps.

Over time, the metal frame on the door around the window will bend back slightly from shuting the door thousands of times. I bent back the metal frame slightly by putting my knee on the door panel and pulled the metal frame back slightly(with the windows down). It helped out a lot. Give it a shot if your seals look good.

I'm gonna give this a shot! Considering I have 400k this sounds pretty likely
