Truck looks ok, it will be better when some hard numbers are released for the motor. I do like the interior not so fond of the airdam on the limited. The grill is growing on me though. About time they offered a locking tailgate.

Checked out a few youtube vids of the crawl control, neat tech in the rocks and sand. Although the idea of an antonyms truck (in crawl mode) kind of makes me nervous. Computer glitch in a heavy rock garden or side hill might not be so good LOL.

If those are heated mirrors (I agree I have seen the picture) I wonder how interchangeable they might be on a 2012. How they attach to the truck looks different but the outer shell/housing looks similar.

I figure the price here in Canada will be GD outrageous! 7K difference between the Canadian SR5 package and the TRD off road when I bought mine

Locking tailgate makes sense now that they will be selling a tri-fold tonneau cover for it, another accessory to tack on. Such as mud flaps.

When I spec'd out my truck I looked at AC TRD Offroads in Canada. They were only a few K more than V6 SR5's. What were you comparing too, an I4 SR5?

Just like the Colorado it'll be at least until December before this truck arrives on lot in Canada. I'm in no rush, I won't be buying one but the wife will probably have a boo. I need to wear out my 2013 before I even consider a 3rd gen. I should be ready for a new truck just in time for the 3rd generations first refresh.

I think it will be some time before we get engine specs and mpg figures. As seen with this Tacoma, manufacturers can tweak power output up until the last moments before production (Toyota said they are still dialing in motor). They are best served keeping that information away from Nissan and Honda (who has a "normal pickup" in development).
My gripe is that like GM, Toyota is throwing a sedan motor in their new pickup. This means there is a good chance peak torque will come higher in the rev band. Ugh.

Really, though. It's silly to think they would out a V8 in the Tacoma when even Ford is phasing out V8's in their f-150. You can get v8 power from a smaller V6 pretty easily now. The days of V8's in small pickups are long gone. If one is serious about towing regularly, Toyota knows they will move up to the Tundra. I did not for once even think Toyota would consider a V8 in the new Taco and I was right.

I'll start by saying I don't like the idea of a V8 in the Tacoma. However, comparing the 3.5 L we will see in the Tacoma to the 3.5 L Ecoboost is ridiculous. The one in our trucks will be naturally aspirated and tuned to balance power and fuel efficiency. It will get 18 mpg+ likely. The 3.5 L is boosted and is really built to give big block power in a smaller lighter size. A hard driving Ecoboost does about the same for mileage as the old 5.4 L Ford V8, but absolutely stomps it off the line and when towing. Different concepts.

I am not comparing the engines at all. I know the Ecoboost will have way more power. I am merely stating the fact that Toyota has no interest in dropping a big 'ol V8 in a Tacoma. Also stating that the trend in the industry is less displacement for light duty trucks. There isn't really a demand for a V8 Tacoma. Look how the Colorado 5.3 V8 faired. A V8 Tacoma was never seriously a hope for most Tacoma enthusiasts.

Just got roughly $22,000 on a 2013 with 18,000 miles. Felt like a low ball but I really wanted a DCSB

From where? Is it a TRD or 4x4? I don't go off kbb's exact numbers, just as a reference. It listed my 08 TRD OR DCSB Prerunner with 62k miles for around $19,500-$20k

I'm up in Canada so our prices will differ. A quick check on Auto Trader shows no AC TRD models but non TRD AC SR5 4x4's going for around $25K. I suspect mine would be worth around $27K. Retail of course. I only have 34,000km on mine. Of course I was sort of kidding about trading in for a 2016 AC TRD but we'll see once they hit the lots.

Are Atkinson/direct injection engines reliable in the long term? Toyota's business model has usually been to disapoint a lot of people with initial engine performance, but 200,000 miles down the road the customers are suddenly fans of the same engine. Just wondering how these engines will fair long-term. If I get one, I will keep it 10+ years. I am still driving an '02 that I got in 2008.

No one knows. And words like "Atkinson" and "Direct Injection" can apply to a wide variety of different implementations all of which will have different impacts on reliability. Keep in mind for this engine it is actually both direct and multi-port injection, and no one knows for sure but the assumption is that it only runs Atkinson cycle at certain loads and is most likely Otto cycle the rest of the time.

Zero issues with our '07 Prius. We'd still have it...if it hadn't been totalled in 2013 by an idiot who didn't see all of the stopped traffic. Rear-ended - airbags never went off.

When they parted it out, the engine and batteries were perfect. We were offered $2500 over KBB value for it, and the insurance company still made money parting it out.

Yes, but the engine duties on a Prius are much different from that of a Tacoma. This seems to be the first motor using both types of technology at different times.
I may wait for them to work out the bugs before I purchase one.

I don't know. Her new 2013 revs pretty high when Power mode kicks in. But it levels itself off and gets the job done. If the 3.5 can get the job done at a lower RPM, we're golden. I'm still willing to bet it'll be far more dependable than the Chevy/GMC.

Lexus NX200t is the first with VVT-iW. RC-F has an even smarter version that uses servos to control the VVT-i rather than oil pressure like traditional VVT-i.
