I love my Taco but I have been waiting for about three years now for a new Tacoma to show up. Now that the 2016 has been revealed I am disappointed because it appears to be the same truck. Yes, the grill has changed and the fender openings have been modified, but it is still a Gen2 Taco. My 2006 Taco is starting to get long in the tooth and I have the desire for a new truck. Toyota has been teasing all of us for years promising a redesign and it has not happened. I am very disappointed with Toyota. Now, I am considering purchasing a new Ford F-150.

You and a lot of us here. It is what it is, Toyota is playing it safe, they know they will sell all of them.

IMO, not even the same truck... I too have been waiting - and am pretty happy with the info so far. New, more powerful, better efficiency engine (my main priority) - improved everything else for the most part. New frame... appears almost everything is new and updated. More creature comforts which I can't complain about.... you are very vague on your complaints.

Same frame with "reinforced areas and new steel added" or something like that according to the release. But yes new tranny, new engine and new designs/tech.

They don't need to bring the Hilux here, just the engine options

So probably the same rotting frame just reinforced, and probably the same crappy wheel bearings, and throw out bearings.

Im willing to bet the frame will have the same issues the current frames do in 5-6 years. But in today's world people rarely hold onto vehicles that long. Gotta have the latest and greatest.

Hey, I like the Gen 2 Tacoma, and almost purchased one. There were a few minor things (HP, MPG, back seat legroom, modern electronics) that held me back.

Toyota addressed those things that needed to be addressed on a truck that is still a class leader. Making these adjustments keeps it a class leader. It may seem conservative, but in all honesty are drastic changes really necessary with the Tacoma? Do we really need a 100% different vehicle?

The Air Force has modified the F-16 six different times. The new Block-60 aircraft look almost the same as the original that came out in the 70s, but its behavior is that of a different aircraft. This is no different. Keep what works. Adjust what needs adjusting, and replace what needs replacing. From a project management standpoint, it's a pretty smart operating premise.

In the 2016, I see a truck that will reliably meet every need I could have for the next 10 years. Looks are good, features are nice, but the dependability is key. With the new engine and transmission, the improved frame, and only slightly updated sheet metal, it's effectively a much different vehicle than the first 2nd gen to roll out.

So what if it more closely resembles the 2nd gen? Is that really a bad thing?

I know it'll be in better shape in 10 years than everything else without a Toyota emblem. I'm not disappointed at all. It's what I wanted, but improved.

    Shall we discuss?

That is terrible though. Would you buy a home knowing in 5 or 6 years the foundation will have to be replaced?

I have no doubt it will be still a great truck. And I'm sure you'll love it and when my 2015 becomes tired I'll probably move to another one, that is unless its a better deal to spend 2k more for a similar tundra which is what its starting to look like, this new taco is gonna hurt the wallet a bit I bet. But I'd still buy it over any other brand out there.

I used to have a 2001 Windstar, only because we could take ownership faster than the 2 months of waiting for the Sienna. Should have waited for the Sienna.

We knew the service department too well.

add a grand or 2 for the extended warranty that you do not need with a Toyota. At trade in time count on losing thousands more.

I'll take my chances with Toyota anyday. Had great luck with them... beside, I expect to see the service dept far less because it's a Toyota (versus Ford).
