I moded 1999 Taco so much it had turned to Land Cruiser
There are more people like you. I had great 8 years with my Tacoma and have to admit it was great choice. Owned 1Gen too.
But if 2016 is where Toyota is going, I am not going the same route. I ain't driving lifted Sienna. I can buy any truck and maintain it. If I am replacing my truck it ain't going to be Tacoma. If I wanted pussy wagon truck I would have gotten Ridgeline .
I have to go for Frame replacement this year. If I get new frame I will keep my Truck and give Toyota few years to come to their senses. If not than F150 with Aluminum body or F250 Diesel will be my choice.

R.I.P Tacomas that was good 20 year run.

Exactly look at the Tacoma's in the Stealership Graveyard waiting for new non rotting frames. And then having them trying to screw people telling them that because the first 10 years they owned their truck in the Wintery North East. And now you have lived in California when the recall comes out, you can't have a new frame, even though your vehicle failed. And now you have to pay for it out of pocket

That's happening? Thats some bullshit. Toyota should pay for any frame that fails regardless of where, clearly there is an issue.

roflmao!!! a lifted sienna... nice strawman. the ONLY reason you're whining is your understanding that it might have less torque... which for most isn't an issue, and doesn't make it any less of a truck. good luck on the ford forums... my dad's on there a lot, trying to figure out how the fix the latest issue his ford truck has - so you'll see his posts often. bye now.

I'll give them 3 -4 years before the next "redesign", seems to be the pattern maybe sooner though with the lackluster redesign in the 2016 and less than stellar wow factor with the critics and current taco owners alike.

Step 1: Put Tundra motor in Tacoma.
    Step 2: I'll buy it.

My dad owned a 2009 TRD Tacoma and traded it in for a 2011 TRD Tundra. Both trucks got similar gas mileage, but that Tundra motor <3

Btw the engine/intake manifold/etc all started getting corroded, which is why he traded it in. And my dad is the kind of guy that washes/cleans/maintains his truck more than he even drives it. He likes detailing the engine bay and stuff like that. Kinda sad that shit was corroding when my 1996 has zero issues in the department. Both trucks were 100% California driven too.

wow.... So much bitching over the design just like the 2012 refresh and the 2014 4Runner refresh.... If you don't like it then don't buy it lol I will never buy from the big 3 because they lost money they owed to the government. Plus I don't want to pay someone who is a unionized worker for a crappy product.

and btw, because someone works for a union doesn't mean they do crappy work. and ford didn't take any... sheesh... so much unfounded b.s. quit watching fox...

    Nothing yet, brand new!
I've had just as much fun with the Toyota dealer not wanting to warranty items that are clearly powertrain issues. Hard upshifts on 3-4 routinely, engine knock noises under load running premium fuel, air leaks in cab (fixed myself). They routinely say "no problem found" to get around covering items that others have bitched about. Granted I can go to other dealers. But this is the norm with Toyota warranty. Hubris eventually got General Motors and it will bite Toyota as well.

I agree, I sold Toyotas for 7 years and was excited for the new truck, this is a great refresh but nothing new, just repackaged...

And now they are using the Camry motor, that sucks, but MPGs will be good....

You act like Toyota doesn't have any problems. I had issues with my 06 Taco and good thing it was a Washington truck or I would have had to deal with a rotten frame. Who knows, maybe it was rotten.

Gotta love the people riding the reliability legacy that quality made in Japan Toyota products like the Landcruiser, 4Runner, Supra, etc.... have built up. Remember, your Tacoma is now a USA designed and Mexican made product that has very little in common with a Toyota of old.

My friend drove his old Ford Ranger for 500k+ miles with only regular maintenance and oil changes. There are other reliable cars other than Toyotas. It seems like every manufacturer is dipping down in reliability with all this new technology so who really cares.

Toyota isn't my friend and don't pay my mortgage for me and I really don't understand why people defend Toyota like they're their family member.

What do you expect, Toyota is famous for reusing from the parts bin. Its rare for a company to completely scrap a frame and produce a new one from the ground up. Only ford in my books has recently made the complete switch to a aluminum frame for their trucks. They are righ now the pioneers in that space and are the test subjects for what is to come for truck frames.

I dont know a whole lot about their frames between their truck generations but im sure they remained the same for quite some time. Toyota, you have to understand has always been a lean manufacture that is not all into drastic changes.

All the recent trucks at Detroit seem to be getting bad press about their trucks. Look at the new dodge ram.....their front end looks like an actual ram now lol. The titan got a big change recently but recent comments have only been focused on its looks.

Very true. Just some people have experiences. In high school my ford was a nightmare that caused a lot of headache and extra shifts at work to keep going. My toyotas have never let me down which is why I keep buying them. But my parent's new fords are super great quality feel and have been very solid for the last few years. Maintainence is a huge key.

And hence why Toyota, and all other manufacturers, have no incentive to make and sell anything that actually lasts anymore
